My 1983 Snapper lawnmower with a swapped '04 Honda engine, after the original 3.5Hp B&S kicked the rod...

Yeah I Know most of you guys would have gone out and bought a new mower but new Snappers start in the near $500 range, I have about $80 in parts for the swap...Engine came from a rusted out Craftsman a buddy pulled off the curb so is a freebee, runs like new...

As a Certified Dumpster Diver:D, I applaud your recycling efforts. Can't believe the stuff people throw away. The stories I could tell...

Can't believe the stuff people throw away.Indeed.

Old Vermont saying: "Use it up- wear it out- make it do- or do without".

Righteous.

As far as I'm concerned, the Snapper rear drive system is second to none... It's fairly simple and has a REAL differential(that I also overhauled due to leaking seals), allows U turns while the drive is still engaged... They are still using the same drive system on the new mowers from back in the 70s..

The Honda has 5.5Hp vs the original 3.5 B&S... In actuality it likely has at least double the Hp, as the old engine had been on it's last legs for some time(fill it with oil & check the gas)... I cut some high grass for a neighbor that the Briggs could not have begin to handle, the Honda barely noticed...

BTW, I have a ace-in-the-hole just in case any of you guys want to try your stuff against my old Snapper... No the rear tires aren't worn, they are "shaved" for racing...

How's about a little drift to go with that 12,000 RPM?

Smart move in my opinion. I still miss my old lightweight cast aluminium craftsman mower I threw away when the engine finally gave out about 25 years ago. They quit making those because I guess well maybe they are a bit dangerous but new mowers are horrible with all those guards and safety levers and bags and stuff. Good job on the snapper.
