I am being transferred to Rapid City SD (NAVY). I was just wondering if there are any members out there and if they have any words of wisdom about that area. I will be driving my MM out there for "house hunting" leave the first week of Feb. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

If you like the outdoors ND has a bunch of it. People there wear Tshirts that say "40 below keeps the Riff-Raff out". But it makes up for it by hitting 110 in the summer. There's nothing between the midwest and the north pole but a barbed wire fence. The state bird is the mosquito, the state flower is the Coors can.

What's the Navy doing there anyway? Isn't that about as far from an ocean as you can get?

Be sure to let us know if you come through the twin cities. We are working on a little get together in early Feb. Maybe the timing work work out for you to stop by and meet a few of us "polar" members.

Congrats on the Post! I'm sure it's cold there, but the open highways will be NICE!

You're gonna need some serious snow-mobile there. I spent 3 years in Sioux Falls from '83-'86. My transport was an Escort and a 78 T-bird. Got a '86 Tarus when they first came out. FWD is the only way in winter! We got our first snow in October and we didn't seen bare ground again till April. One nice thing, they know how to keep the streets clear of snow there. The area in nice, Black Hills, and all that. Don't know the exact conditions in Rapdi City. Sioux Falls was on the plains, and the winds coming from the west never stopped. Some winter days were 40 below wind chill, but it just didn't seem that bad with low humidity. You dressed for the weather. Being in the mountains might be a little different. We enjoyed the area, espically the roaming Bison. Met one in the Black Hills, his head filled the passenger side window. Man he was huge. Summers in Siuox Falls were mainly hot and dry! Keep us informed.:beer:
