Now as Paul Harvey says is the rest of the story.

Here is what my friend Brian has come up with at Apten Performance, www.apten-us.com We both use the SCT tuning. Most of you know about our motors, they have hypertectic pistons as well a marginal rods the motor is safe up to 450 RWHP, now there are those that believe a roots blower is better than the centrifugal, in 2003 Ford introduced the 03 Cobra, this has the Eaton type blower on it, with a steel crank good forged rods and pistons and good fasteners the car stock makes about 390 RWHP, with a minor changes and a chip it climbs to 450 RWHP. Brian also has been porting the Eaton blower housing and making another 40 or so RWHP, Now Kenny Bell steps up and makes a bigger roots blower kit for the 03 and with larger injectors and a boost a pump and tune the car makes over 600, we have seen three engines go by by by various companies for what ever reasons, the roots blower spools up quicker but it also generates a lot of heat, one flaw in the 4.6 SOHC or DOHC is poor coolant flow out the back of the drivers side head, we have found that the cylinder temperatures on # 7 and # 8 is over 50 degrees higher than 3 and 4 #7 cylinder is normally the piston that lets go on either of the modular motors now we know why, I talked to Brian and Jerry W gave us some pointers while in Atlanta, so Brian came up with a kit that allows water to flow out of the back of the drivers head and T in to the passenger side, the passenger side on the cobra motor has a water outlet tube installed in the back of the cylinder head where a freeze plug is normally found on the Marauder engines. This water outlet then goes into the heater core for complete water flow through the engine. Neither of the Marauder heads have a water outlet so we made kit for it, it will insure that the heads maintain even cylinder temperatures. We both sell this kit. I am currently doing a 04 Marauder that I am installing a 03 Cobra motor in the car I am removing the roots with a Centrifugal Vortech JT Trim, some have said why not keep the roots here is why. Brian now has just finished doing the exact same thing on a 03 Cobra. He took off the roots bolted on a ProCharger used the STOCK Cobra injectors along with a KB Boost A. Pump the car laid down over 658 RWHP, this is amazing I like centrifugal blowers, enough said.

Dennis, you never cease to amaze me. I heard about this flaw in the design some time ago, also heard some think out loud on how to fix it. Bravo! Your fix sounds like another winning mod, for thos who feel they will need it. I'll be in touch today for details, thanks again.

Here is a picture of the back of the engine and the freeze plugs, as you can see this would be very difficult with the engine in the car. But it could be done. The marauder unlike the Cobra motors has the one water outlet fiting on the passenger head, so water comes out of the passenger head then flows through the heater core and back out of the heater core into the heater a hose that is conected to a rigid line that runs down the intake valey into the back of the water pump. The marauder has no cross over in the back of the head and no water flow out of either head as shown in the below picture. Now if you look at this picture water flows out of the rigid tube on the right side into the heater core then out and through a heater hise into a rigid line that runs down the head on the passenger side ito a hose that connects to the front crossover pipe. The easiest time to do this modification is when you do the transmission upgrade while thr transmission is out his is a piece of cake.

Now if you look at the pictures below you can clearly see that you will have complete water flow out both heads, this will dramaticly decrease cylinder tempratures wich will decrease spark knock, and may may make possible to run more timing wich will equate to more useable RWHP.

Ok, so this car runs under 10 seconds in the quater mile? HOLY crap!

I'll buy one (with that much power) when it can do that AND handle at least almost up to par with a Z06: )

'Mazin what you tech guys can do!

Dennis, I see that the heads are interchangeable from side to side.
Can the kit be revised to mount where the crossover pipe would normally go?
It would make in-car installs a lot easier, no?

That's some scary numbers, but "Awesome".

Dennis - That is one cool MOD.

Thanks for the pics, Dennis, makes everything easier to understand.

I see the connections Zack refers to, and it also looks like a little machining of the intake would be necessary. Is there enough "meat" here to machine away for a proper fit?

Question 2. I am sure you answered this elsewhere, but I haven't seen that yet. So, if the 6/7/8 cylinders are running as much as 50 deg. hotter than others, and we get temps stabilized and brought down, should we expect any more power to result from this temp mod?

Thanks, Dennis again, nice work!

well Zack has a good idea but you will have to grind a corner of the intake out on the passenger side and the hole size is smaller than in the back of the head so tubes will have to be custom made this will drive the price up but I will look into it, and with this the car will be able to run more timing with less spark knock= RWHP

So can you install the coolant mod with the tranny removed? Like when I get the bulletproof tranny and Stallion T/C installed?

Yes Its Very Easy

Very impressive!

For maintenance can the hoses be serviced with out engine or trans removal?

If not are longer life hoses available?

once installed the hoses can be replaced with very little difficulty

This a GREAT mod, Dennis!!! I'm DYING to do this one ASAP! With our CRAP California gas, and my SCT dynotune, it's damn difficult to advance the spark table very much at all without knocking. This mod would definitely help. However, from your description, it sounds like it's fairly difficult to do the mod with the engine/transmission still in-place. Not sure I could tackle this one myself. Hopefully, someone will volunteer to go first and describe the procedure and level of difficulty . . .

Also, is it possible to make the kit available with silicone hoses? Thanks for any and all input on this TERRIFIC new mod!

Hey Dennis:Whatever happended to this car?

It should would be great if you brought the Cobra Marauder up to SSHS4 so that we have more fire power against those Chevy guys.

So, how about it???

Marti this car was done by Brian Herion when he owned Apten he is now the GM at SCT, now I did finish the 04 with the JT Trim and its done and may be at the shoot out, that car made just under 600RWHP, right now we are working 11 hours a day for the last three weeks getting moved into the new building, and I plan on having a grand opening and dyno day some time on November.

Sounds great Dennis, but even I learned to take some time off. Come on up to the SSHS and I will even buy you a meal at the Waffle House. Oh yeah, tell Sheila I will be there and I would love to see her too!!

I have a week off in November....maybe I'll take a trip down if it falls on my vacation. Keep us informed.
