Bet alot of the "younger" folks think that TV was always 24/7. ;)

"The Lieutenant" with Gary Lockwood.
Trivia stuff.
Watched an old Elvis movie from 1963, "It Happened at the World's Fair".
I noticed tha one of the bit players was a very young kid, Kurt Russell.
I read somewhere that Elvis wanted to be, and had a good shot at being, Tony in "West Side Story", but Colonel Parker said "no". Didn't want Elvis cast as a juvenile delinquent again, like in "King Creole".
Anway, Richard Beymer got the Tony role, while Elvis did "Clambake". Which one is the classic?

Not showing your age. I remember these too, especially the Christmas specials some of them had every year.

OMG, will you look at all these great programs that have gone by the wayside. Now those were the era of "Great TV"
And what are we stuck with? A bunch of meaningless reality shows.
Thanks for sharing everyone.
+1
TV today is horrible. Besides sports, I haven't sat to watch TV in a long time. With the ending of Seinfeld, Everyone Loves Raymond and even King of Queens so, too, went decent sit-coms and programming in general.
I think this time will go down in entertainment history as the doldrums. All these awesome shows folks are mentioning from different eras. They weren't just shows....they were events. From another time.
Now I feel old.

It was mentioned in the original post and several times thereafter. You don't read anything here before posting up do you??
the Menace, Father Knows Best, I Married Joan, The Honeymooners and many of the other TV shows of the 50's. They were just clean and wholesome entertainment. Anyone else old enough to remember these shows?
The Honeymooners

I don't mind the realism and verbage in today's TV drama shows especially on the cable channels.
But, as far as sitcoms go on CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC, words like "vagina", "pen*s", "boner" and the always hilarious, "that sucks" have lost their funny factor.
I think we crossed the line years ago with "that sucks", which has now become "that blows", which leaves no room whatsoever for misinterpratation.
How do you explain that phrase to your little kids or grandkids?
(Interesting, "pen*s" got blocked out by this site, but the word is said regularly on TV. Proves we're more moral than network TV.)

All great shows and in my DVR listings. I'm also really liking the new show Person of Interest and I kind of liked that new show on USA Necessary Roughness
