Not missing from the car, but I had a funky cold start a couple days ago that has developed to something more regular.
It occurs when warm and mostly at idle but I have also noticed it occasionally happening on acceleration.
I have the origonal cops still, it will be eight years of brutilized service and almost 117K next month.
last time i had any sputtering it was corrected by fresh set of plugs but I have felt like I'm on borrowed time with the origonal factory cops.

Yep, new set of cops is a good idea. You can get the GMS solid rope connectors too.

Check for codes. They will tell you if one or more coil packs are going down.

Simple fix if it is.

Well the new plugs did not correct the miss.
Take off one coil at a time and see if it changes?

Go to Autozone and have them read the codesand repaort back, please.

Bradley, I had a miss in Phoebe that didn't show at idle, only under medium acceleration, and mostly in higher gears. Turned out to be a bad COP in cylinder #3. Never set a CEL.

We have a great deal on an 8 pack of coils if you decide to replace them.

COP set (8) (https://ssl111.webhosting.optonline.ne t/spartaperformance.com/merchantmanager/product_info.php?cPath=53&products_id=356)

Hey Tommy...when I follow your link, then click on the "click to enlarge" under the pic, it goes to a blank page.

Could it be a spark plug being loose and working it's way out?

Yea I'm trying to keep the bandwith low on the site it helps pages load quicker. Did you have a question about the C.O.P.'s????

get to a shop with a scan tool that can run a power balance test. this will show which cylinder is dropping out. however, if you have a ton of miles on the coils then you might as well replace all 8

I just had the all the same issues your experiencing.. 137K miles and just replaced all my coil's, computer, fuel pump and filter, timing chain. The beauty is purring and is running better then ever... Think ill be getting another 137K easy!!:cool4::banana:

If one or more COPs are going down it will not necessarily trigger the CEL. You need a scan tool like a SOLUS to look at the codes. I wish you lived closer, you'd be posting that the problem was solved already.

Lonnie reminded that I can data log with my Ex-cal III and laptop running Live link.

By the differences in the data I collected scanning for misfirse concluded;

#1 6.06
#2 0.08
#3 8.5
#4 3.1
#5 2.2
#6 15.9
#7 3.7
#8 7.7

Looks to me like #2 is keeping the engine running

I would start with a set of coil packs.

If you need a hand getting some stock Ford ones I can get pretty competitive prices or you can get them at the dealer and avoid my shipping to you.

This is a pretty common problem among mod motors.

Please keep us posted.

I did replace the one worst coil with a Motorcraft from the local dealer, I no longer get a discount from the nearest dealer.
At the dealer #'s a new set of 8 would be over six bills, that's why I did the one to see if it helped.
Thanks for the offer Marty , but now since I have had some funky cold start issue that is intermittant(showed up the same time as the miss)I'm thinking the symptoms are similar to when the Idle air controller bit the dust.
They may not be related to the IAC but the no cold idle unless you keep your foot into the throttle, is how it behaved when it failed last year.

I think it is the number of misfires per thousand events.
What do the numbers represent?

Like I said starts runs perfect except an occassional funky cold start, just get into the pedal a little too much, it stutters.
Tomorrow I will get a fuel filter, clean the intake , recheck the plugs.
See where the bearing squeek is coming from.
The tensioner is weak, so it might be time for a new one of those too.

Some good info from Zack that has worked on quite a few. Start from 0 and try your best to achieve WOT to 90. This is approximately how long it takes a misfire to generate a code.

I shouldh have some decent COPs if you wanna try, but mine started going south at around 65,000 miles.

I started thinking on the most recent plug change, I did not have the feeler guage so I just slapped them in, pregapped.
I found my guage and pulled them out this AM., I closed them to a tite .025 gap and put them back in.
I did not drive it yet, the LSE was dead on the drive and twin # 2 had to pick up her sissy, I think I left something on.
So My daughter took the Marauder and I ran the snots out of the LSE to charge the battery.
I'll get the Marauder out tomorrow and report back.

Yeah, even with four degrees of timing pulled out of the tune, it is silly again:P
