I was just recently told that if I come get it, it is mine. Well it turned out to be a 69 Mercury Marauder X100. The bad part is that the interior was mostly stripped out to begin restoration, the drivers window was broke in the process then it got moved outside for a number of years. The engine compartment seems to be the best area on the car. The engine will turn over with a wrench on the crank shaft pulley, so it is not seized. With the amount of rust it has, I think it is beyond the restoreable point. As of right now I am planning on pulling the engine and rebuilding it for a different project car and scrapping the rest out. The 429 CJ will go well with my dream car build. Before I do so though, I wanted to offer up the chance to get a certain part to anyone that might need it for real cheap. Kind of a Merry Christmas from one car guy to another. I don't have any pictures of the interior right now, but I can assure you the only thing left is some seat frames and a very bad off door panel.

Edit: I didn't take a picture of the passenger side, it pretty much looks like the driver side, rust and bondo.

There's a '69 with a 390 for sale at a small dealership in Kerville (I think it's Kerville?). It looks really nice actually, probably 90-95% shape.

I do not thing the motor was a "CJ" just a 429 marauder V-8 with a 4 barrel carb.

I had a '70 X-100 same color combo, shame it's past the help stage.:bigcry:

Link to that other '69 I was talking about. Can't be positive it's still there, however I've seen it come and go from time to time at the same dealership on CL, so I think it's not going anywhere fast.

Funny part is I picked this one up just south of San Antonio near I-37/1604 intersection.

BDJ,
It may not be a CJ. I was told it was, but I was completely unfamiliar with this car prior to 2 weeks ago. I was originally told it was a 390 stroked to 428 and made into a CJ. When I saw it was the X100 and the cleaner said 429, I just assumed it was a CJ so I am sure you are right.

As far as the other car goes, it really isn't a car that I want. Don't get me wrong, it is cool as hell and very unique, but I have spent the last 24 years dreaming after a Shelby Cobra. I am in the initial stages of building a replica. I am beginning to gather some major parts and equipment that I need to actually build a car. The 429 CJ or not will make a good motor. I will likely stroke it to a 460 when I rebuild it and put a very snotty cam in it. I wanted to offer up the parts if anyone wants anything off of it before it goes to the scrap yard.

The engine is not a CJ (unless someone put a CJ in it). Don't let those wheels go to a junk yard!

Nice find!
If you're parting it out I'd be interested in the power window switches (if it has PW), the X-100 emblems, any wheel center caps, the steering wheel if it's a three spoke, the vacuum check valve (either on the LH inner fender or in the radiator support) in the headlight door vacuum line harness, and the trunk lock hinged cover if the spring and stop tabs are still intact.
As has been said, unless some changed it you probably don't have a 429 CJ, but you do have a 360HP, 480 lbs-ft torque monster under the hood. They aren't at all shabby in stock form and some porting and headers can really make them take deep breaths.

Any chance you could post what the information is on sticker on the front of the right valve cover?

I agree with Kirk, hold onto the wheels......They look like they can be cleaned up.....

Right now the car is still in the trailer at my friends shop. As soon as another car goes off to paint we are pulling it out and beginning to pull the engine. I will get the pic of the valve cover at that time and will let you guys know about the other parts then too. I agree on the rims too. I plan on taking a trip to the junk yard to find some old ford wheels to put on the car when we take it.

I don't think the center caps are there on any of the wheels, I will check if it is the 3 spoke wheel. There may be 1 switch left if it is on the 1 remaining door panel, but I am not sure. The headlight doors are stuck open, so I don't know if that means the valves are good or not. The stop tabs are intact, but my wife tried to unlock the trunk and it would not turn. The door also stayed open. I will check it out, but I think the springs are probably gone.

I had one of those 69 429 4BBL motors I bought out of a wrecked 69 LTD Brougham that only had 42000 miles on it. I put it in my 73 F350 Super Camper Special.
What a great motor, torque up the wazoo!
I also had the same motor in a 70 Montego Mx Brougham. That thing would spin the tires until you ran out of gas.
Great Motors those 429s!

I had a 460 in a 79 F150 and it was a beast. I love the engine family. The 2 piece rear seal was my only real issue. Pain in the rear getting it set where it didn't leak

You are spoiled Joe :) Where I come from that car is almost a #2, usually we find cars like that and the bondo is held together with duct tape and we still consider it repairable

I'd hate to see that car go to peices but its a tough one, cars like that, Buick Widcats, Oldsmobile Jetstars, Pontiac Grand Prix's are all really cool cars but tough to find parts and never ever worth what you put into them, definitely a labor of love.

Steve,
I agree with you, I just don't have a personal connection to the car. Id you know someone who would want to take it on, I will let it go (minus engine) really cheap.
