While cleaning out some old papers, my wife found the original dealer invoice dated 3/31/1972 for our new 1972 LTD Brougham.

2 dr, Ginger Glo, dealer installed buckskin vinyl top, A/C, 400-2v, 3:25 posi rear, thin gold pin stripe, AM/FM, undercoated

Cost: $4453, with taxes, MV and Documentation fees

Strange day, 40 years ago.

After playing two dealers one against the other, I decided to think about it.

When I got home that afternoon, the salesman from one dealer was parked in front of my house with a "deal" in hand. Went to the showroom, signed up, deal done.

Kept her for nine years until I caved in and bought a station wagon.

Beautiful car, that 72 Brougham. (I still have the sales catalog.)

I had a '71 LTD coupe, one of the best cars I ever owned.

What a boat, I swear, the thing had to be 30 ft long...;)

That was the only car I've owned where I couldn't put the seat all the way back; couldn't reach the pedals! :D

I relly wanted the 72 Mercury, but I couldn't hack the $700 difference.

That 72 Merc Marquis Brougham was one big boat!

Those were the days when Mercs were Mercs and Fords were Fords, except for the drivetrain.

Roger that, and Mercs were a step up from Fords in luxury and price. I miss those days.

Nice, but not a Brougham and not a 2dr.

Thinking back, I believe the 71's still offered the FE block, 390.

The 72's lost a bit of power (lower compression), and the 73's gained the mandated front/rear snowplow bumpers.

At the time, I worked at the Port Elizabeth, NJ, sea terminal right across from the Newark Airport.

One day, big wind/dust storm. My rear bumper looked dusty.

Wasn't dust; my bumper was sandblasted from the wind rushing across the Newark runways.

Called my insurance company, the rep looked at the shape of my car, and said "we'll pay for a new bumper".

I was shocked.

Yeech, too much green...

They did, but were dropped mid year for the 400, I've seen both engines in a '71...

Well after I wrecked my moms 67 T- Bird /Pops replaced it with a 1973 ltd Brougham 400 with 2v with a borg warner auto, later swapped out with a FMX . Later that year I wrecked my pops 69- 390 country sedan wagon it was replaced with a 1973 country sedan wagon with 400 2v and a c6 automatic. Bad driving year for me, but the cars were nice ,both were light green [ cream green ]
