What are the pros and cons of a .327 magnum vs. .357 magnum?

The pros of the .327 are lower recoil with similar velocity and energy to .357 albeit with lighter bullets. In small framed revolvers like the Ruger Sp-101, the narrower case also will allow for a sixth shot instead of the usual five that are afforded to similar sized revolvers chambered in .357.

Being an SP101 owner, I can honestly say I wish I'd have gotten one in .327. They take a lot of practice to tame with .357.

I have a hard time finding .327 Federal Mag in my hometown so one con might be the availability of ammunition. It also tends to be more expensive when I do come across it.

The pro of a .357 Magnum is that I have a loaded one hidden in my home for anyone that visits without a hall pass.

One thing you do need to consider with 327 is the availability of ammo. You can also practice with 38s in a 357 so you can still practice affordably.

Ammo availability and being able to use .38spl in the .357 is the kicker for me. .357 all the way.

As mentioned above, I to like the wider range of ammo options that the .357 gives you.

I have always wanted a S&W 625. .45ACP makes a really big hole. Plus I already have the ammo for my 1911. I really don't like the JM edition very well, and they have discontinued everything except the performance center model and the JM:(

I gave you mine for the .327. Ballistically they are darn near and even match, but with the .327 you get an extra shot in the cylinder and less recoil. Unless you're that worried about ammo cost or are going to agonize over .03", I'd go with the .327.

Thank you, greatly appreciated. It would be easier for the wife to shoot vs. the .357 and why buy a mag if all you are going to shoot from it is .38 sp. Then again ammo availability and cost is always a factor.

Will just have to try both out and see which one I like best.

Guy was probably a psychopath. They like to stalk recent widows because they are emotionally weaker and easier to manipulate.

Bad ass. We gotta get her in a marauder.

They make low recoil .357 cartridges for the wife. So many choices with the .357, why look elsewhere?

Yep! .38 to practice...357 to carry!

The type and brand of ammo is as important or more so than the caliber.
