When you think about muscle cars, a full-size, four-door, family sedan is not what’s on your mind. That’s one reason we think the Dodge Charger (read review) is cool to begin with, and it’s why this new Charger Redline makes our list of the 10 Coolest Cars from the Detroit Auto Show.

The Charger Redline is a Mopar aftermarket parts exercise, not a production version of the Charger. Three different Redline kits are available, called Stage I, Stage II, and Stage III, each applied to a standard-issue Charger R/T.

Stage I is decorative, adding carbon fiber exterior trim, aluminum interior décor with stainless steel pedals, a matte-black roof graphic, and heritage “R/T” badges. The Stage I package also includes the 20-inch Mopar Black Envy wheels seen in the photos.

Step up to Stage II and the Charger Redline adds a cat-back exhaust system to bump power output and add a more menacing note to the proceedings, high-performance brakes for greater stopping power, and a front-tower cross-brace to improve handling and response.

Stage III adds a monstrous 590-horsepower, 426 cubic-inch Hemi V8 crate engine designed for racing applications. This “Elephant Motor” is equipped with a lightweight aluminum block, aluminum pistons, and a forged steel crankshaft, among other upgrades.

Get a 2012 Dodge Charger Redline with the Stage III setup, and your family sedan will be putting 220 more ponies to the ground than a stock Charger R/T. If that ain’t cool, what is?

Wouldn't just be cheaper to get an SRT 8 and add a blower and laugh at the redline?

SRT has some catching up to do with the Mustang and Camaro. I'd wait and see what Dodge's answer is to the GT500 and the SS.

That's awesome. 590hp 426 motor. No power adder FTW!!
Looks good too.

Could use some wider rims and tires to fill out the wheel well.

Only 2012 Mopar I would remotely think of owning would have to have one of Mr Norms package's on it. Tim barth has that one there totally streetable and making 900ish to the tires. Always been a Ford guy but the new Cady CTS-V wagon has resally caught my eye. A dam wagon smoking European high dollar machines WA-POW

Article says it's not a production version like the GT or SS. :)

Yep,
I like the new tailights, but that side scallop that they added looks like crap.
On top of that, they add the hideous, tilted carbon fiber scoop to make it look totally ridiculous!
Those door scallops looked great on the original Charger, but they look like a$$ on the new Charger....:puke:

It could have 1000 HP, it's still a Dodge, nothing you can do will fix that.:P

Look at the Mustang and the Charger head on.

A lot of similarity in the grille.

While I love the new Mustangs (which are getting way, way up there $$ wise unless you stick with the basic GT), at least Dodge is selling a car that can actually carry a family and still run pretty quick.

Isn't that what the Marauder was designed to be?

PS, I've never been a MoPar guy, but in the 60's (ancient history), really tough to beat them on the strip. In the automatic street classes, they had no competition, and they were beating most of the standard shift cars as well.

Never would have thought that Dodge would outlive Pontiac, Mercury, and Oldsmobile.
