Anybody else watching this? Where are all the Galaxies and Mercs?
I didn't realize that my Galaxie was that unpopular.

try seeing an oldsmobile on there, they have lots of great cars, I even like seeing the weird cars but once in a while I'd like to see a Cutlass, Monte Carlo, Wildcat, Galaxie or Cougar go by and them actually talk about it

I've seen a number of 442's and a few Cougars, but that's about it. Not a lot of (great) 50's Olds 88/Super 88/ or 98's.
Seems like the "frame off restoration" shops aren't very wild about full sized Fords/Torinos/Cyclones etc.
Not that I care. I don't plan on selling my Galaxie or 2003 TBird retro while I can still turn the key and find my driveway in the dark; just an observance.
Getting bored watching all the Chevys.

Remember when it was all MOpars????
And keep in mind that everything that runs across the block does not get on TV.

DVR....I'm watching yesterday's B&J session or infomercial....it would seem to me...speeding through the ads and commercials, and in show self promotion....it seems you see about 5 or six actual block auctions, between all the colorful antidotes by the color men. But their on air auction selections leave a little somewhat more to be desired................

Probably just a coincidence, but they cut out a beautiful 55 Merc convert and a 60's big Lincoln sedan due to commercials.
A 1961 Galaxie convert drew big bucks (100K), and a 2005 retro TBird did pretty well in the mid 30's. One of the very early sales, a 55 Ford Crown Vic, was a gorgeous car. Just as sharp as a 55 Chevy. (I think the 56 CVic was nicer than the 56 Chevy.)
Lot's of baby birds, but GM still dominates.
Right about commercials and self promotion.
I DVR all the shows, and fast forward through the commercials and cars that don't interest me. Saves a lot of time.

Barrett Jackson is OK lots of high dollar stuff. Mechum auctions, I get this on speed channel usually every Saturaday night, I love to watch. They have afforadable & great selection of all cars with real knowledgable commentators. I keep a droll rag next to me for the shows. Check it out if you never watched, awsome cars.

That 61 Galaxie went for big bux, did anyone besides me notice the lumpy bodywork on the bottom of the passenger door?
Scary for a 6 digit car to have crappy bodywork. They advertised it as "all original" .

Scottsdale is a flag ship auction so the cars are going to be pricier.
I expect that I will be at Meccum in Indy in May. They have some pretty awesome cars too.

It's not a Mustang, it a SHELBY, one of I believe 563 produced in '65, that includes something like 35 competition models... If it had been a competition model the price would have easily tripled...

I agree but these barn finds are now the 'In thing." What I find interesting is that over the last few years I have met a few very nice Oldsmobile guys that "swear" their car is all original and then can easily point out how they have 1971 fenders instead of 1970 or the alternator looks right but the date code is two years off, no biggie to me but just points out that even these "rare all original barn finds" are probably not all that original seeing that they are 35 - 45 year old cars.

I think these guys with unlimited money ruin the hobby for the rest of us, making the cars out of reach for the average Joe. Plus, I'll bet most of the bidders are dealers.
I enjoy watching the auction though.

There are plenty of those high dollar cars selling now where near the prices paid a few years back. And I enjoy watching all that money lost!! Makes me laugh.
But there are plenty, and I mean plenty of affordable cars at those auctions for us to enjoy. I see them all the time at the Mecum auction that's held here a few minutes from me, in St Charles, Illinois. Lots of cars sell for less than to just over $10,000.

Go there almost every year to watch, I'm amazed how many 10k cars you can buy and sometimes for even cheaper, a few years back a mint 70 Monte SS went for under 10k. Many of these 10k cars you couldn't fix up for that price let alone buy the project car itself in the first place

These guys with money to burn overpay for a car, and then let it sit in a garage until another B-J auction in the future. (Doubt if they take out a 100,000 car to the local hamburger drive in on a Saturday night.)
What do they do? Run garage tours when they have company? Think their company cares or even knows what they are looking at?
What a waste.

I watched the B.J. Auction today and enjoyed the cars for the most part. I would like to see more of an equal variety. I had an 85 Mercury Capri and loved it until someone hit it and took it out. Well it was totalled and lets face it for whatever reason you can't always replace what you had. I eventually came across an all original 66 mustang GT. I loved, and hated it if that makes sense. I loved the car and I loved going to shows but everytime I went to a show someone would tear me, or the car apart on its originality or whatever.
Now I have a 64 Mercury Monterey marauder 4 dr fastback hardtop. Oh yeah! It has been a struggle to find parts or people to help but Im thankful for this website.
Oh, Im not gonna keep this that baby original. And its gonna get driven!

I hear ya, I get that all the time and 99% of the time the dude ripping my car doesn't even own a 442 let alone an Oldsmobile. And its always stuff I know that they point out "its a repo steering wheel, not easy to tell but I know," yes well I'm the guy who bought it so guess what, I know its a repo too
