Anyone here familiar with the 6.0 Powerstroke's EGR problem? I've been contemplating upgrading my DD to a 07 King Ranch or Lariat and doing research it seems like the 6.0's EGR valve is an issue, specifically the ones that are sitting and idling for extended periods of time. They should of stayed with the 7.3 IMO...I love the look of F250 Harley Davidsons but I don't have a bike..:(

I have heard of egr delete kits for the 6.0, but I have no first hand experience. I did it on our 2001 Jetta TDI, and it required a tune to shut off the check engine light. I'm sure someone on here has more knowledge than I and can help you out.

A friend just did it to his tow truck. It's a big job, 8 hrs? But the egr delete is the thing to do. Runs better. Runs cooler and will save big bucks in long run. Egr valve is still there and moving so computer is fooled. It just does nothing
The real thing on diesels is original cost/maint/things that will fail out of warranty.
It is like going to the casino all the time and they say you are money ahead.

I did some research and from what i understand the keys to preventing the issue are clean oil and a good quality fuel additive.
I am using fingers-crossed and Amsoil method myself. Amsoil diesel fuel conditioner and Amsoil HD diesel oil.
Fortunately my truck won't have any extended idle periods.

Yeah the whole "idling" thing probably had to do with former fleet vehicles..which would be crazy to buy but what are your plans for your truck? Towing? Style? I'm assuming there are no need for plows in Florida...:rolleyes:. Good choice though :beer:

the problem is with the EGR cooler and even then its not the coolers fault. almost all of the 6.0s problems revolve around the coolant. the silicates in the coolant can coagulate and plug up the egr cooler and oil cooler. in extreme cases it can cause the TTY head bolts to stretch and the head gaskets can blow out. as long as the coolant changes are kept up on there usually isnt any problems with them but they do seem hit or miss. if you delete the egr and put head studs in the motor, alot of guys say they are better then the 7.3. a stock 7.3 is a total turd. also witht he 6.0 trucks you get a 5 speed auto trans vs the 4 speed that came with the 7.3s.

Not related to the EGR but if you haven't had the known miss on these caused from the harness connection at the valve covers yet, then be ready. Simple fix for .25 cents each side!

Take off the covers, grind down two sides of a quarter and wedge between the harness and the harness holder/clip. Easy peasy. Apparently, this was never a good fitting system from birth.

The bosses kid (his truck) at work thought I added a second engine he had so much power!

Its an '02? Maybe I'm wrong? Just thought i'd throw it out to save someone here some trouble shooting.

02 would be a 7.3 which makes more sense, 03 was the 6.0

Very common for the EGR to crack and start putting coolant into the fuel on those engines. I know of several trucks in my area that had this issue more then once. I was told that it was due to vibration and excessive idling in cold weather.

Also, don't baby the engine. Make sure you rev it and drive spirited. The intake, egr, and vari-vane turbo can coke up real easy.
