A new concept I've been working on, this is accomplished by adding 1/4" round stock to the runner OD and then blending it into the bellmouth. Gonna do a 10" runner length version like this also:

Oh Todd... :( I was going to do that with the spare I have now. :D We gotta meet up one of these days. Tig the round stock on then shape it? Very nice!
Hey! BTW! You ARE leaving the stock bottom on, right? I realized that putting a flat sheet of stock on isn't as good as what Ford did with the slightly angled bottom that perfectly reflects the wave front back into each runner.

BIll, is this our next project???
lol
I am totally down to do this.
You have no idea, thanks for those pics.

I'll be posting pics of a 10" short runner with the same bell mouths next week. The 10" will be tested on my car (Mach 1, auto trans, 4.10 gears, cobra intake cams, stoc exh manifolds, x pipe).

Looking forward to the results. Kinda glad I waited a little bit before I sent you my SRI. Now there is something new I could try.

Was it you that had a 10" runner intake that needed to be fixed? Ya know, a set of cams will get your car into the 12s...just saying.

The stock bottom is used.

I have a line on a set of 97 Cobra cams and yeah, my intake is in need of repair.

Why would you put a flat sheet on the bottom of the LI?

Good question! Since a lot do, including the infamous Carlos Nazario (Nazman), why? Maybe it was just easier to weld the side plates to a piece of flat stock? When you make the short runners, you cut out the inner parts which open it up to the "tunnel" that goes right through the plenum. Now you have to block off both ends. You could do it with the original bottom piece you cut off, but, thats a bit more work because of the curves. All I know is if you know about resonance tuning, pressure waves and such, those oem angles are pretty damn good.

the oem angles make much more sense than a flat plate. we got around 25RWHP out of a ported and polished stock runner with 2 degree less of timing on Levi's car.

That's some nice work should show some impressive results.

The short runner's I'm making do not have the ends blocked off. Also, I've made 10" short runners with flat bottoms and also angled floors, the results were identical.

Are you still planning to send that intake? I have some free time and am also interested in doing some dyno testing with it...and possible some free mods to it also.

On an n/a Mach 1 this intake 11rwhp/12rwtq more at peak and 6500 power was up 16rw.

These numbers based on a stock vs ported or the old ported styled vs new ported version?

Stock vs ported. The only way to gain 11rw peak over a ported intake is to go with a short runner.
What was gain on the old version ported intake?

How do you cut the bottom of the intake off so cleanly? On a mill?
