If you go with a 180 degree t-stat, do you really gain much performance? It's always good to keep the engine cool, but are you messing with the algorithms the engineers designed for proper warmup and running temp for fuel injection, etc.? I'm overhauling my cooling system, so now is a perfect time to switch if a good idea.

Good idea. Cooler plugs & cooler stat allow a bit more timing..... more timing = more power.

The coldest I'd go is 180 degrees.

You tuner can make the adjustments.

A 180° thermostat by itself will do nothing for you. If you have a tune that is set up for more timing and calls for cooler plugs and a cooler thermostat, then by all means use them.

True, that. The t-stats just an enabler.

Ahh. I have an Xcal 2 that I haven't played with for a while, so I can't remember if I can change the timing or not. I think not. I know I can change the fuel ratio though.

If I go with the cooler stat, can I leave everything else the same (plugs, tune) for now, since I don't want to pay a tuner just for a cooler stat? Or should I at least change out the plugs with the stat and do the tune at a later date?

If you looking for a top notch t-stat, I would go with this one

Cost a few dollars more but you'll be happy.

Ask me how I know?

Right now I've got the stock tune and plugs with the Reiche stat.

Runs good and no problemos.

Not sure what the huge advantage is over a normal t-stat. Napa THM-109 180 degree stat is $10.

Ordered up NGK-TR6 plugs.

Good choice!

One step colder.

Overphyped and overpriced. I've run nothing but standard 180 deg stats for years and they've all worked as they should.
