I saw that our local NAPA had listed these in a flyer while at our local service depot. And like normal, they are on Epay already. This is actually about $20 cheaper than I can buy one for from NAPA. It may be a good option......

Is $86.95 cheaper than $50.00?

The problem with those is the same as the Ford factory LCM.... the relay is the same and will burn up same as the stock LCM.

I purchased one and it has the same relay installed. I guaranty you will be replacing it down the road again.

Question.....

Has anyone had a problem with a LCM that has the external relay mod?

I haven't heard of problems with any I've done.

+1!!!!!

I have Jim's rebuilt LCM & it's working like a champ. No problemos whatsoever. Plus I use my MM as a DD for work at nites.

Thanks again Jim.

Jim let me know when you pay a visit to Honolulu so I can buy you dinner. You have saved the day many times!!!

Aloha

Not yet, but it was my first attempt at the LCM mod(going on 2 years ago) as well as first time dealing with such tight quarters(not burning up the board or other relays). Also only had the thick solder so I'm still half expecting it to fail. One of these days I'll properly mod the extra LCM I was given and put it in.

Speaking of which when I do finally do that, I'll fix the current one and will probably be wanting to part with it.

My FBM LCM works so well I need to re-aim my HIDs
On my last night drive everyone was flashing me like I had my high beams on.

Money well spent IMHO

Thanks Jim

I'll take your LCM and mod it for free if you give me your old one.

Nope, it's not. but if you don't have time to fix your LCM, and you need it on the road quickly, this will do the job.

If your going out of town, or are out of town, and your LCM dies, at least you know, you can go to NAPA and pick one of these up. Or maybe everyone should just drive with intermittent lights till they can send you $50?

I am in no way trying to steal your thunder, I was simply offering up some info that may help someone who needs a fix quicker than they could get their LCM sent off and fixed, just that simple, I apparently stepped on your toes, sorry, if I really wanted to be mean, I would offer to start doing the same fix for the actual cost of the parts.:poke::D

Most of the time you can tap the LCM to get it to work.

Don't forget shipping, your labor. packaging and trips back and forth to the post office.

And if you can't...... I posted this as a way around dumping $300+ on a LCM @ a dealer if you thought that was the only choice.

Shipping, packing, and the post office, sure thing, I can fix them as a service to the MM community, I'll just pay all the associated fees and parts. Being as how it's about a 15 minute fix, $4 worth of parts, $6 or so for shipping, I could do that.

Really, I was just trying to give people an option, no need to brow beat me, I don't care if you fix LCM's or not, it wasn't to take away anything from any of what you have done. If I wanted to do that, see the above paragraph. And FWIW, I have fixed a few for zip, shipping as well, zip.

This is the same reason I don't list parts for sale here, people get all butthurt.

No problem.... all is good here....:beer:

That'll work for a while, but there's a limited number of "taps" before the relay craps out for good.

Ask me how I know.... :o

There is a second (third?) option. Dorman now has a patch that plugs in between the harness and the LCM and bypasses the burned out relay, with a new one. PN# 599-200.

Just thought I'd give y'all a heads up if you didn't know about it.

It's actually the same option as I posted, NAPA sells Dorman, the one listed on ebay is $20 less than I can buy for from NAPA.

The other option is free repaired LCM's that I have.......

Great find if any one is caught in a pinch. When mine goes my LMC will be on the door step of Fastblackmerc.
Do you have any LMC repaired & ready to go Then all one has to do is change it out & send you the old one with no down time.

That was the whole reason of the post, a quick fix if your caught with no other real options.

Or just send me your dead lcm, and I'll swap it out with a repaired unit, same day turn around and -$0- to boot.
