About 9 1/2 months ago I started dating a beautiful young woman whom I've known most of my life and have been friends with since she trained me for an old job of hers before she left for college not quite 9yrs ago. We tried dating once about 6yrs ago but it didn't work out for a number of reasons, mostly due to logistics. My once penchant for being a drunken jerkass certainly didn't help things any though. Time went by, both of us graduated college (ironically she graduated from Purdue's biggest rival), dated other people, left old jobs, and returned to them later. I had serious plans to move out to Utah for a job offer last January that was later pulled off the table for some unknown reason. Little did I know that God had bigger plans. It was actually towards the end of last February during an encounter at the Library where she trained me all those years ago that we started talking again. The rest, as they say, is history.
To save you all a bunch of amorous, saccharine sappiness, I'll cut to now well yesterday! She's one of the most difficult people to surprise, but I wanted to surprise her with a little something on V-Day so I had a local floral shop put together a sort of gift basket with flowers, her favorite candy, and a bottle of wine that I was going to try and leave on her doorstep as a surprise for when she woke up that morning. It wasn't going to be an easy feat because she has a dog that hears, smells, and barks at everything and she herself is quite the light sleeper. However, she does live out in the middle of BFE so I could at least get creative in how I approached her house.
Anyway, V-Day came and when I woke up, we had about 3" of white crap on the ground. To make matters worse, the Marauder needs new tires which, interestingly enough, got replaced later that day. But I'm determined and most of the way to her house from mine is highway so I went for it. The hills before her house had of course not been touched, but I was able to get a running start at them and made it to the base of her driveway without much of a problem. To defeat the dog, I approached the house downwind of him and walked very slowly through the woods along a 4x4 trail. The snow was so loud I was certain everyone could her it though! However, I made it to the house and placed the package between the doors without alerting her or the dog.
I made it back to the car and was immediately faced with this dilemma:

Crap. File that one under "did not think things through." Ever the diligent, I gave it a good try though. After the third time of trying to get up the hill, her grandma came out from just down the road to see what was going on. I explained everything and she offered to use her tractor to pull me up the rest of the way. Luckily I made it up after two more tries and was able to escape to the highway without ever so much as leaving the road. I felt pretty good after that!
And she didn't hear any of this going on. I got a call about 10min after she got out of bed to hear her ecstatic voice telling me how much she enjoyed the little surprise. And it was worth the effort!
TL;DR: I fell in love, surprised her on Valentines Day, and then ascended redneck Mt. Everest with balding BFGs
She'll be getting another surprise in the near future, but I'll keep you updated.
Obligatory pic of the two of us:
