I was reading in my local paper that websites supported by donations have seen their paid subscriptions fall by 25%......:(
I check or spend time on our site usually daily, and for $25.00 a year.....consider it quite a bargain......about 7 cents a day!! What can you buy these days for 7 cents?
I know times are tough for most all of us, and we're pinching pennies here and there. So... I'm appealing to all, pinch a few cents over this way to keep this great site going...:D....and get some flags.:banana2:

Well said! Thanks for the reminder that we need to support with our $$ that which we support with our time if at all possible. It is a small price to pay for the best information and best entertainment/friendship in the Marauder world.

I think it should be paid only.
The recent trend, street racing thuggies, is heading away from where my head is at. They are in it for the money and the high. Ask a lot of questions to make their car faster and don't share anything they learn.
Post a street race and there are a lot of replies. Post a drag race and there are few. There was a time it was the opposite.

Don't think that I would go THAT ^^^^ far; but I do understand what you are saying. Have noticed the trend myself. Newbees pop in and ask lots of questions, then disappear without even a "Thanks". They'll only come back when they have more questions. At least they know where to come for the answers. ;)
Supporting members of the site know and appreciate the "return" on any donation made to the MM.Net. These donations help to keep the lights on here and also go toward offsetting the costs of the many MM.Net sponsored events throughout the year. This place has become a valuable source of information over nearly 10 years .... and it has facilitated countless friendships and comaraderie among MM owners and enthusiasts. Its difficult to put a price on that. I contribute because I WANT TO and understand the value of the MM.Net. Let the others come and go as they please ... we know who they are ... and likely will NEVER see them at any of the events anyway.

I was a supporting member and intentionally let it lapse.
So what if people come here and ask questions or seek knowledge. If you do not want to help because they have not supported, then don't. I did not realize that this was such a private little club that you don't help those not in it. I believe you help those in need if you can.
As for all these 'returns' that we get on our investment ... I do not see them. Yeah. I could take the 1800 mile drive to a meet to see a return, but really ...
My old car forums rotate where the meets are across the continental US so that people can come. I have not seen that here yet. They are also donate if you want to sites and they still have less BS then this site. MGMT on those sites will call you out if you screw a member. They also make no distinction wether you are a paying member of the elite or if you have never contributed a dime to continue operation of the site.
Face it, our newest Marauder is 8 years old. It is getting cheap enough people are buying them as a toy ... Young folks who know 'jack' about making it run right or keeping it pristine.
Personally I think the flags vs stars is CRAP! I think it is a way for some members to pull the 'I am in the elite' card so they get away with more.
As for my donations, over the last 10 years, I have probably contributed $1000 to online car forums. That's right, $1000. I have no ownership, never been a moderator, not a vendor. I expect nothing in return for my money. NOTHING!
This is by far the most involved Marauder forum that we have ... I spend time here because of that and because of some of the knowledge --- make it a paid site, and I will go elsewhere.

I will just say they you do get return from this site. Donations keep it running. Too often we forget the owners of this site do it as a hobby as well in addition to full time jobs. Having servers and support cost money and there has been no inkling whatsoever from any owner making it a paid site.
As far as donating members getting away with more, I would not agree with that. Zack, MuscleMerc and Dom were all donating members, and aren't here anymore.
Do I miss those guys? Yes, I've known Zack and Dom for the last four years and consider them friends.
So donate if you want, or don't. But don't say you don't get any returns, cause if that's the case you wouldn't post here, or exchange information or good times.
By the way, you could always organize a regional meet and talk to the owners about the site participating in it, that's how Louisville started.
Just my opinion

Last time I checked. The major return is the web site is still up and running.
If you don't like the flags, simply don't look. I like them as do many others.
As far as meets. Organize one near you and stop waiting for others to do it for you then. That's where it all starts.
But as far as if the site should be a paid for site. I think it works as it is. It's just like the American Dream. Others riding on the tails of others footing the bills.;)

I get it your mere presence is worth more to us than anyone could ever charge you or for that matter pay you? If it's for free you will do it but if it cost money you won't. I am confused???

I was a supporting member and intentionally let it lapse. That's OK! No one will prolly even notice....actually mine lapsed for several weeks and it was fine.
As for all these 'returns' that we get on our investment ... I do not see them. Yeah. I could take the 1800 mile drive to a meet to see a return, but really ... The "return" is logging on to the site and having it be here day in and day out. It would be great if you could get out to CAM land for some of our meets, or to one of the MVs held in the mid-west, but it's a bit too far for sure. As for planning your own meets, my husband and I have organized an annual meet up in New Hampshire for the past 2 years and plan to do so again this year. We just enjoy getting together with other members and going somewhere together with the cars for some fun. I used to live in California and I know there are some great places to hold a meet for the west Coast crowd. Or do what we did today...had lunch with 7 cars and 14-15 great mm.net members out in Gettysburg. One member posts up the date and location and the rest of us make plans to be there. A big "return" is meeting people you otherwise would never know. Turns out some pretty interesting people decided to buy a Marauder! If you want some ideas, PM me.
...They also make no distinction wether you are a paying member of the elite or if you have never contributed a dime to continue operation of the site. This site doesn't make any distinction either.
Personally I think the flags vs stars is CRAP! I think it is a way for some members to pull the 'I am in the elite' card so they get away with more.
Never seen this happen unless you want to count all the slack and second, third and fourth "chances" given to some of our more famous bad boys (no longer with us) whose names shall go unmentioned.
This is by far the most involved Marauder forum that we have ... I spend time here because of that and because of some of the knowledge ---So do I. That's why I feel that contributing to the site is the least I can do. I wouldn't want to feel that I was getting so much without giving back just a little. But honestly no one will notice , care, or treat you any differently, flags or no flags.
Anthony
Relax and enjoy the site. I think you would also enjoy getting a meet together. Just start with lunch!

I always love your posts (In a good way!). You were one of, if not the first to reach out to me when I joined with my SB. Thank you.
As for your post, I know where you are coming from and I appreciate your response.
In my past forums, I have helped set up national meets and several local. In fact, locally we are planning a gathering of Marauders on Mar 24th. It will be blast to see some of the guys again.
As for here and flags ... Hopefully you and I can agree to disagree on the return. I understand servers cost money ... I work with them. I understand time is valuable ... I have three boys and a wife they I love dearly. But this is a car forum and my past ones did not have a paid membership. Everyone was the same ... I do not see that here.
I am glad that several see the value of this forum, and see a 'return' in their money. Other than information, which is free elsewhere, I do not see it.
If you are ever out in California again, be happy to say hello!
Thanks!

Again, we don't have a paid membership here either, we hope you'll donate, and no one will care of you don't.
But to think someone with flags is somehow allowed to do a lot more, I'd challenge you to site examples.
There ate very few permabanns on this site, and I don't think one of them is a non contributing member.
No one is demanding your dollars and if you don't see fit to help keep a site and meets funded at $.07 a day, then keep it and at the end of the year you can buy 4 coffees at Starbucks

There is no mandatory paid membership here either. Anyone can join the site and soak up the information as they wish.
No one is treated differently because of the "flags" vs. "stars". You are seeing/or NOT seeing something that just isn't there. What you may be missing is that many of the supporting members have been here for years and have met each other in person. I've been hanging out with many of the folks here going on 8 years and more. Friendships have been established that go well beyond the keyboard. If that fact comes across in the forums, it isn't the "flags" that make it happen.
Nothing is ever FREE. It costs money and time to keep the site up and running. Supporting members voluntarily donate to help defray some of those costs. If you can .... Fine. It you can't .... that's OK too.

I really didn't mean to cause a firestorm over my post. I've been a supporting member for over a couple of years, and notice the occasional post about supporting the site. Having not seen one in a while I thought I would just make an appeal after reading an article in my hometown paper. Plain and simple.
I have not been to any club meets anywhere, but do enjoy the pictures and the comments, yea, some sarcastic, some funny, some off topic, some with sexual innuendo, and the bantering back and forth at times cause me to laugh out loud. I see nothing wrong with these comments, in these posts about meets, It's all in fun, and really think that's what it's all about FUN..
The only comments I could make is that the help, i.e. the "Garage Forums" should be limited to that, help and staying on topic. The "Marauder Community" forums should be wide open for everything else. Choose your Forum wisely..
Finally, I welcome all, as I was welcomed, whether you support, choose not to, or drop your support for what ever reason.
