Sorry to here. I journeyed out in June of 2010 with just enough hours. Seems half my class wasn't so lucky... I was off for almost a year but have been going strong for the last year and a half. Of course, it is only a two Plumber shop now so that helps! UA Local 501 Plumber

As for the truck.... I finally had ENOUGH of doing that to my lil Escort wagon and finally took a company van.

Journey out = graduation, no longer an apprentice/pee on..

In your five years of apprenticeship you need to have something like 7,800 working hours logged in order to finish school. With a lot of lay offs (something that generally doesn't happen in these parts) starting in late '07 to present, many guys were held back from graduating on time and had to go back in August for yet another year of school.

The good thing about not having enough hours year to year in school was you didn't get held back, just your raise did. No biggie. If you didn't work, why should you get a raise? What sucks is the grand total at graduation and not having enough hours at that point...

I'm guessing after journeyman is master? How many hours of training is that or does it switch to years of experience?

For us in the Operating Engineers. Besides being a journeyman. We also have different cards (A card, B card, C card and D card) that go along with what types of equipment, cranes, pumps whatever you have been trained and experienced with.

For me personally. I've been with the same company 17 years. And when I first started I specifically told my new boss that I wanted to learn everything there is to know about drilling. And sure enough. I did. First 5 years I was a helper with 2 of the 3 top drillers we had and learned a lot. The first day I drilled. I was already doing things that the lazy people who had been there 20 years had never done. And now I've drilled and done things that my drillers that taught me had never done and I've never looked back.

Butt seriously....
So at what point are you considered able to train journeymen? And do you get paid more?

You made a funny butt joke.

Our union has the training site and school. I don't need to train anyone. I will train someone myself if I think they are worth the oxygen we breath though.

My card says Journey Worker.
