A buddy of mine had a 78 Grand Marquis with an emission-choked 460. Even with that crap bogging it down, I don't think you could overstate the raw grunt in the form of torque that that motor makes, it feels ridiculous. If he punched the gas, the car wouldn't lurch forward, it lurched sideways from the entire body flexing.
We actually measured one thing too while he still had it: the length from the windshield line to the front bumper of that Marquis was as long or longer than the entire front to back length of a Smart-ForTwo....

I kept thinking about this car on the way home today and it kept reminding me of another thread on here about an old long vehicle... so I realized this thing is missing 2 things: a small Cessna, and runway lights on the hood. USS Continental? USS FoMoCo?

lol, when my buddy still had his '78, we joked with him that we'd get him a life preserver as a "fifth wheel" for the trunk and have "SS Hoopty" painted onto it. :P

Now that's a real car! Not one of these crappy egg shaped, no style, no lines, they all look the same pos's the govt has forced on the public called cars today! :mad2:I had a 1977 MarkV, the hood was as long as my MM (ok, slight exageration but you could have parked a Honda on it). It had a 460 4v and had POWER to the proverbial ***** ape!!! Got 18mpg also [till you opened the back barrels :)]. I would love to find another... I miss it... :shake:

I have had 3 460's over the years and loved every one of them, the first was in a 76 Grand Marquis it had every option but power pasenger seat and it was a blast to driove, second was a 76 T-Bird now that was a really nice car to drive too the 3rd was a 78 F-150 talk about lots of power in a pickup, then came the gutless wonder 79 Lincol Town Car Collecters Edition with that worthless 400 2v, i enjoyed driving the 76 GM more than the Lincoln.
