I want mufflers that are quiet (as possible) but throaty when accelerating without drone. I'm keeping my cats. 2001 crown vic PI. Any help would be MUCH appreciated !!! I've been reading a lot but still do not have a complete grasp.
Thanks again

I put flowmaster super 44s on last year. Inside the car it's quiet with no drone whatsoever. If I lean on the throttle, it sounds good with no adverse resonance. My car still has the resonated tips, so your car will be slightly louder.

I had a 99 Vic with 2 Flowmaster 40 series. It sounded tame while idling but growled nicely with acceleration. I think Borla makes some performance mufflers that aren't excessively loud. Youtube is your best friend :burnout:

Dynomax super turbos trust me man trust me. Their cheap and they flow better than flowmasters. Flowmasters will be quiet for a while but wait until they are burned out. Get the Dynomax super turbos do it come on do it.

Borlas are my choice & installed on my Rauder.
There is no dredded drone and at heavy/wide open throttle it wakes up roaring...
Plus million mile warranty too boot!
I had Flowmaster 40s on my 1999 P71 and the drone was ridiculous plus after about 9 months the back part on one of the mufflers near the seam/bevelled edge began to rust/leak.
I took it back to the exhaust shop where I purchased and they replaced it.

I had WickedFlows on mine, with and without cats it was pretty mellow at idle and gave a nice velvety growl tone under WOT.

I will say I had the dynomax super turbos on a Chevy Tahoe I owned for a bit with stock exhaust and it made it really nice. Very smooth and quiet around town like borla almost, couldn't even tell it wasn't stock at a light, then when you stomped on it opened up with a good low growl not raspy like some.

Borlas or magnaglows will get you what you want. Nothing else

I loved my Flowmaster Delta 50's when I still had stock exhaust minus the rear cats, and resonator deletes after I extended tips out an 1 1/2"
Then I switched to custom made LT's, and X pipe, and no cats. I hated the sound so much I wanted to sell the car after all the work! I swapped out the flows for 18" Magnaflows (which I normally don't care for) and now I absolutely LOVE my car again! So nice of a quiet rumble untill you stab it, then WOW they come alive!
Not enough? I open the cutouts and it sounds like war.
Check some of my videos on youtube under Marauding4life. Also Guspech750 has a nice one of me hammering it in a tunnel with the cutouts open. :) Fun times!

Dynamat VT's.....
x2
I had these on a cat-less 3" exhaust turbo car with full exhaust and it had zero drone and was quiet until you got on it.

I have decided on Magnaflows... Now the question is 14 or 18? As previously stated, keeping cats... Maybe too quiet with 18's ?

I went with the 18's and they get louder in time......not loud but they are deeper and quieter when new.......14's may be what you want and either way drone is not gonna be a problem!!

Have you heard the sound of a stock marauder. Maybe you would like some marauder mufflers, should be a direct fit for the crown vic. You may be looking for more performace so the magnaflows would be better, just giving you some options.
I have hooker aerochambers, they sound good also, no sound clips, sorry.:burnout:
check this link out of a 2004 CV sport, sounds really sweet

I have 14" Magnaflows on my Mach 1 and 18" on my Marauder, both have catted X pipes but the MM has LT's. Neither of them are overly loud, the Mach has a bit more bark to it, but the MM has a really low rumble, mainly due to the LT's, I'm sure.
Either one, you won't go wrong if you're keeping cats in it, if you go catless I'd go with the 18" Magnaflows or Dynomax VT.

Nothing made by flowmaster will be quiet.
Borla Xs Pros or Dynomax VTs combined with cats will be very quiet.

I have the Borla stinger catback - I believe that's the one that comes with XR1 mufflers - on the mustang, and it will wake the dead...
Not sure if those are the ones you're talking about when you say X's.

Running flowmaster super 40's with MM tips extended past the bumper 1/4" on my 2000 CVPI, and no drone and a light rumble.
