decided to change to a B&M deep tranny pan which holds 3 quarts more fluid while i did the 15k mile tranny flush. i started to notice a shudder when downshifting out of OD once in a while. i wasn't sure if it was the OD or the torque converter unlocking that caused the shudder. 1 mechanic said it was caused by the fluid breakdown. so after $165 tranny pan, $160 of 5 gallons of redline synthetic ATF and a $28 tranny filter, i know the possible cause of the shudder. inside the pan from the factory was a gray plastic ball/pin w/ gasket that originally plugs the dip stick hole. someone forgot to remove this before the pan was installed and they forced it out by jamming the dip stick down, so there it bounced around in the tranny pan.

That yellow plug is in every transmission that leaves the factory.
It is there to keep dust and dirt out of the trans before it is installed in the car. It is designed to fall into the trans and stay there when the line workers install the dipstick tube. It doesnt affect anything.

Jo,

I want to do this, but I'm concerned about clearance. It looks like this hangs down lower than your exhaust (which on mine already is low with the Eibach springs)...so...how's the clearance Clarance?

hangs at the same height as the cats, the OEM ones. i haven't measured but i would guess 6" of ground clearance. that is on stock ride height. Trickflow has a aluminum finned pan that holds 1 quart more fluid, tci also has a aluminum finned pan that holds 2 quarts more and hughes makes a pan too. the tci pan is about the same depth at the front of the car but gets shallower at the rear of the pan - probable the reason for less fluid.
