I got my car back last night from the dealership and noticed today that the right tailpipe hangs about 3/4 lower than the left. Enough of a difference that you can see it walking up behand the car. Now I am nearly certian that the pipes were level last time I looked.

My service was for the fuel guage TSB (shows empty with 6 gal in the tank) I was told that this involved dropping fuel tank to get to the sender. Does anyone know if you have to move the exhaust to do this?

I do not want to take it back and loose my car for another 2 days. Is there a hangar I can adjust or something else that can be done short of bending pipes?

I am suprised that I am so bothered by this.....:alone:

Yeah, it sounds like one of those things that you only notice when you've been looking at the car so much, but nobody else would even notice. I noticed the same thing about the tailpipes on my Marauder, but it took me about 7 months of looking at the car to notice it, so I don't even worry about it. So I doubt that it has anything to do w/the work that was done to your car. The longer you admire your car and gaze at it, the more things like that you'll notice. When you first see things like that, you aren't going to like it ofcourse, and I didn't either, but after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that it's no biggie.

Have you checked both of them to be sure they are in the right place on the rubber bushing that the hanger piece fits on? There are 3 "positions"...left, right and center...be sure they are in the same position. If they aren't you can reposition them into the center.

If that doesn't do it...go by a muffler shop...slip a guy $20 and ask him to fix the hangers.

Hmmmm, now you have me wondering. I'll have to look at those bushings you're talking about.

sounds like it is worth it to get under there in the muck tonight to check.

Just couldn't live with myself walking out to my designated parking spot everyday and seeing that.

First car of mine that I have ever obsessed over things like this. I can amost hear it complaining.....

Heavy351,
You're not obsessing...you're just persnikety like the rest of us.
If that tailpipe looks wrong to your eye, it will HAUNT you till it's fixed !
Believe me, everytime you walk toward your MM from the rear, your eye will pickup FIRST on that wrong tailpipe...because you KNOW it's there.
FIX IT NOW !!! A month from now, it will be just a distant memory.

Yep, 99 times out of a 100, it's just the bushing on the exhaust tip hanger that's misaligned. Two secs and a good tug and you're back in the races with even tail pipes.

^^^what they all said^^^

My pipes were OK vertically, but the left one was offset inboard by (½"?...1"?), and like gilby04 said, it haunted me every time I looked at it...

Turned out the rubber bushing was pushed too far onto the hanger...I just popped it back where it belonged with a big screwdriver and "wallah!"...

You want your pipe hangin' low, but certainly not on your car. That would drive me nuts!!!!!!
When I picked up my car, both pipes were hanging low because the knuckleheads at the dealership forgot to properly fasten them.
Don't be satisfied till you get em straight, cause nothing is more sacrilegious
than uneven pipes.

There is another thought--- ;)

Mine were that way after fixing my tranny and found this little BIG secret that can cause it>>>> The flange connection where the bolts are holding the exhaust together in front of the mufflers have been re-tightened a bit off balance from "level" with the sway bar as your guide.... You will need to put it up on a lift to tell and see this and then step back a bit to view comparing the curve of the pipe against the sway bar--sure enough.. you'll most likely have to loosen the flange bolts and turn it a litttle and re-tighten and BOOM!--There you go...all even...

Of course-- this would mean that someone DID loosen your exhaust to mess with your tanks and just thought they would re-tighten all back together and no one would notice---I THINK NOT!!! --Right!!

So . another thought to consider, cause it's not always the hangers on the tips......ok
