Don't use the Quick Reply button, use the Post Reply button (gray, left side) and it takes you to another page full of options for text, fonts, colors, links and emoticons (smilies.) The blue and green globe with a link in front of it is used to "Insert Link" in a reply. Let your mouse hover over the icon and it'll tell you what it does.
