View Full Version : weird door lock and interior light problem after battery swap
howdy, I swapped my battery yesterday and followed the guide in the manual on letting the computer relearn but I have an issue now where the interior lights when I get in the vehicle will stay on with all the doors closed and the dimmer set to all the way to left ( not on) also when shifting out of park the door locks used to engage and now they are not doing that. In fact while driving if you hit the lock button it works but a couple secs after it will unlock them all. In order to get the dome lights to cut off after I exit I have to hit the keyless remote to lock all the doors then it will fade but its annoying having the interior lights on while driving. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it a couple times to try and fix it but its still happening, anyone have any idea of other things I can try?

Check the owners manual on how to reprogram the LCM.
Thank you I thought it might be something like this so I read through once looking for it before I posted and found nothing. I just re-read through the entire owners guide page by page because I didn't want to come back and ask where to find that process. Is there some other book I don't have or do you have link for it I cannot find it here http://www.magindat.net/marauder/mmownersmanual.pdf:mad2:

Page 81 deals with the locks and security functions.
darn I spoke to soon, I did the entire procedure where at the end your hitting unlock three times etc and that isnt making autolock come back on or turning off the interior lights while the car is on. I repeated it several times to make sure it was done properly and I still have to wait for the 10-20 min thing to turn off the interiors sometimes when I turn if off after I have been driving it :(

This sounds like something weired happened here, Just changing the battery should not do this? But what I would do is disconnect the battery overnight or for at least 6 hours or so " that's how you clear ABS codes" that should reset everything to factory IMOA :).
I think it is coincidence that it happened when you changed the battery and you've got a dome light door switch that is stuck/bad. The car thinks the door is open and won't turn off the dome light or auto lock the doors. Once the battery saver timer function reaches it's limit the dome light will go off and the doors will auto lock.

Yup. You have a hanging door switch or related issue. That's it..
Working in IT I should have known to drain the flea power out the sophisticated computer governing "Carrie" good call. I really appreciate all of you guys suggestions and thoughts maybe it was dumb luck getting the interior lights to go off a few times by closing all the doors at the same time and trying werid remote door close lock turn dial combos. So Sunday we ran out to Longhorn and on the way back when my girlfriend who I didnt tell because I wanted to play up that the car was haunted from the battery dieing ( I mentioned it was acting haunted like it had a mind of its own after the battery died and had to be replaced I was theorizing that the new battery may have an actual human soul) She is a door locker heh so I waited for her to notice it wasn't autolocking when shifted she took the bait and just casually went to lock it herself. It unlocked on her a couple seconds later and she whipped around in horror and surprise "Its Carrie" she cried! Before I got a chance to let it sit unplugged I was out running around even into the night before I could come back as feared and expected 3 police cars changing shift who shared the most of the ride home with me around 11pm with all interior lights on I am sure thought it was hilarious. I get home and don't disconnect the battery before crashing out for the night (stupid) Today though while driving home the problem went away and now I have started and drove from place to place 10 times or more and it hasn't come back.
Haha we both got our Steven King movies mixed up don't we...

perchance had you used a commercial car wash or driven through a heavy rain???
we had the exact same thing happen a few years past and both times it started right after taking the car through a spray car wash to blow off loose dirt. went crazy trying to figure out until problem corrected itself and going through car wash second time and problem returning. after a few days in the sun( it just happened to be summer both times) problem corrected. haven't been through car wash since, only need to hand wash anyway, and problem has NOT recurred. obviously water was getting somewhere it wasn't supposed to be and causing a short. when it had a chance to dry out all was right with the world!!!

You better check those door switches or you will kill another battery. Even though the lcm. Commands The lights off after 20 minutes you are putting stress on your new battery.

Check the left front door one first. That gets the most wear and that is the one that will trigger the "your an idiot and are trying to lock yourself out of the car" feature (trying to lock the doors with the key in the ignition and exiting the driver's door. Try locking the doors from the outside key pad 7/8 and 9/0 keys together. This will override the lockout feature. When they fail intermittant, the lights go off and then they stay one. By the way somtimes the normal water runoff through the door will mess with the switch. the switch is on the actual latch. door panel has to come off to reach it. I have had some luck as a shadetree fix of rolling the window down and looking inside the door and aiming some WD40 at the latch and cycling it a few times to get it working until the switch can be changed.
