Used F-150 Lightning. If you have to drive a truck, it might as well be Supercharged!

With gas prices being what they are, and if you can live with a small pickup hard to beat a Ranger. Have had a couple and they are just great little trucks.

I'm with Ctrlraven on this especially if you like good truck mileage with 4WD.

I wouldn't trust the longevity of the ecoboost just yet. We all pay for the flawed designs of the big boys. I have a Saturn ion with a vti transmission to prove my point.

I like the first Ford Raptors that were supercabs. I am not as excited about the new crew cab Raptor. Nice trucks though.
Good luck in your choice!

I would lean towards the F-150 EcoBoost. I found these a while back and there are several videos that go in depth regarding these well engineered engines.

I spent some time with the Eco-boost and hated it. It is very peppy but there was a constant feeling of far off WWII fighter planes, not a drone, more of an annoying buzz. I liked the 5.0 and the regular 6 wasn't to bad either.
What are you using the truck for? Doing any hauling like a camper then a diesel might be the ticket.
Best bet is if you want a full size truck decide which of the Ford, Dodge, Chevy/GMC, Nissan or Toyota you like the looks of and then test them out. Some may have more room where you need it or features you need or don't need. Plus truck shopping is fun. I own a Nissan Titan and like it a lot but it also likes it's fuel.

King Ranch is an over priced underwhelming money maker for Ford. If you got the bucks go for the Platinum series. Way nicer IMHO:)

+1
Just got a 2011 XLT Supercab with a 4.0L V6. This is my third Ranger and definitely the nicest of the three. Very quiet, and a nice smooth ride for a small pick up.
Prices are great right now as well. Ford has some excellent incentives going on these trucks, and you can prolly snag one nicely equipped for under $20K, brand new.

Dodge Ram. Ive got an 05 Quadcab hemi that Ive had almost zero problems with since new, no need to hotrod it as with 365 hp it is every bit as fast as my Marauder was (honest). The new ones are even nicer. They also come with 5 year 100k powertrain warranties. Though its a matter of taste I think they look better too. Best values are the Lone Star/Big Horn edition.

I've been looking at used adrenaline sport trac ..Surprising quick! I like the older models front fascia compared with the newer models..hard to track down, but fun to drive....

"Powering the existing Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a 4.0-liter V6, and the underpinnings are mostly based upon the first-generation Explorer. Not exactly exciting. Quite the opposite is the redesigned and muscular Sport Trac Adrenalin. Packed under the hood is a supercharged 4.6-liter, 32-valve V8 cranking out 390 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, and the four-wheel independent suspension has been tuned by the gearheads from Ford’s SVT (Special Vehicle Team). Power is managed by a six-speed automatic transmission, and massive 21-inch wheels connect it all to the pavement. The F-150 SVT Lightning may be dead, but its heart and character are alive and well in the 2007 Ford Sport Trac Adrenalin. And now two extra passengers can go along for the ride."

I had 2 Dakotas, loved the 95, not as impressed with the 99. They were real trucks, that could do real work. I towed my Mustang from Denver to Albuquerque with the 95 and several cars with the 99. Not something you could do with a Ranger. If you have the v8 in your, I would recommend a F150 with the small v8, or a comparable Dodge. Before Ecoboost, the v6 in an F150 got something like 1 or 2 MPG better than the V8, but had less power.
Of course, if you have the V6 and use it more for light duty, grab one of the last Rangers if the cab is big enough.

I love the new Dodges, but specifically because of Ford's approach to the bailout thing, I would buy a Ford. As a plus, it would be the new Ecoboost engine. I've driven one, and the power is great.

oops...I read over the word new, If I was buying new, I'd go with the eco-boost. I got to drive my friends new one, he uses it around his farm and as a daily driver. I went with him to move some cattle to another pasture and it pulled the stock trailer with 5 cows very well with no hesitation. Fit and finish was real nice. He said it was a little pricey, but said he doesn't have to fill up every week like the V10 / 250. I don't have any experience with new Dodge, other than my ex-wife's Hemi Daytona Charger, which was quite impressive..
