My Marauder started making a sick sounding rapid knocking sound at start-up and upon acceleration, in first gear, also when letting off the throttle, actually this ticking knocking sound can be heard at all rpm's when there is no load on the motor, . Is there a quick fix , or does this sound like something more serious. Is it easier and cheaper to rebuild this engine? , or to try and find another Marauder engine. I have to drive it to work, because it is my only transportation at this time. Any help, suggestions will be appreciated.

Might be an exhaust leak.

Man this thing is LOUD at start-up! it sounds like someone shaking a can full of marbles, I don't like this knocking sound and am beginning to think it is a rod knock, anyone else have this rattling noise at start-up and that damn ticking sound upon acceleration?

Can you record it? Video with sound?
Change your oil and look for debris in the oil and shake out the filter on a clean rag.
How many miles?

Could be spark knock. You use cheap off brand gas lately

Yeah I checked the oil , but it looks black. less than 5000 km since last oil change. Car has 120,000 miles on it. I'm the second owner, It has always had a faint "tick", but now it sounds a lot louder, quite embarassing really. I'm going to change the oil and filter, check plugs and COP'S new EGR, pcv valve if I can find one,I know these motor's are notoriously loud, but this sounds bad. I'm not sure how to post pic's or a sound video, but I was wondering how many Marauder owners out there have the same rattling noise at start-up and what it could be?

It's extremely problematic to try and diagnose a noise over the internet even WITH a sound clip...it's impossible without one; we'd only be guessing. I suggest you take it to a competent mechanic ASAP.

Well I changed the oil and filter, Motorcraft, and checked the plugs, and COP's which looked good. The oil was very dirty, less than 5k since last change, and looked like very fine shiny particles in it, almost like it was mixed with silver paint. I know this dosen't look or sound good. when I crawled under the car. it sounded like the knock, rattle was coming from nderneath, like the oil pan. Does this sound like it may have spun a bearing? Looks like I'll be needing another engine, anyone out there got any suggestions?

Yes, that does sound like a rod knock.....

Your choice is to buy a used off Ebay or a junk yard or spend the extra $$$ and get one mail order (MMR etc.)
When I tried to have mine rebuilt by a recommended local re builder I got screwed over twice.
Good luck

If you go with the rebuild route I'd suggest asking / checking the local Mustang forums for recommendations.
Bruce Wayne, where are you located?

I'm in southern Ontario Canada, I have to drive about 250 miles just to get the car home, where I can decide what to do with it. I hope it makes it, it's going to be a long painful journey listening to that rattle all the way home
