Yesterday cruising at about 35 mph driving my 2010 Mustang Gt with 10,000 miles in 5th gear I felt and heard a light boom under the car, the rpms went up and the car slowed to a stop with the shifter locked in 5th gear with no clutch action. The shop says that the clutch assembly is fine and what ever happened is in the trans. They have to remove the trans to investigate. I tryed googleing the problem but nothing exists.

Usually there is a grind in the 1st-2nd shift on these due to a misaligned shifter plate. These transmission ford is using are made in china.

No, Fred cars still has the Tremec 3560, the Chinese made MT-82 was used 2011 +. Fred there is nothing to Google, I've never heard any abnormal issues with the TR3560 I'm curious to see what they find.

I was informed that the 5th gear has been grinding metal to metal inside the case and finally failed. After I took delivery of the car I could hear a grinding noise in the drivetrain. I took it back to the dealer and had everything checked, the service mgr. stated that it is the nature of the car being that it is a stick and you are sitting closer to the driveline and car hear the gearing and driveline noise. He even offered me to test drive several stick shift Mustangs and you will here the same noise, ironically the Mustangs on the lot were all automatics and I let it go being that the noise can only be heard when it was silent in the car. The car won't be ready till the 5th of May.

Sorry to hear this Freddie. :( Hope everything works out under the warranty. Seems that low grade noise you heard during the test drive was an indicator of "Things to Come". I NEVER believe a dealer or a salesman when they say "They all do that".
