At Lebanon Vally today for first run of the year. Weather: sunny, high 40s at 11AM winds gusting to 35 mph. Track was prepped good. First run car left strong 1.355/60' at about 1/8 mile gusts started blowing the car out of the groove. driver lifted, straightened it out and got back on it. Best ever 8.797@ 162.33 mph. Track officials found wind conditions too dangerous and limited future runs to 1/8 mile - RR's second run was 5.798 at 130.7 mph with a 1.45 60' time. Good opener - Joe

I was in those stands, the run was amazing. What a great day of racing and some of the finest muscle cars I have ever seen. Some of those "muscle cars" weren't running any faster then what my Sport will run with a tune. Looks like I'll be speaking to Lonnie soon.

I'd love to see what this beast could do on a well prepped track in lower heat. The temp was at least 80 or better when this run was made and the track was slick due to all the street tires tearing up the rubber out of the gate.

Bracket racing at LVD today to try to improve 60' times. Changed rear tires from 31x13.5 to 32x16. It worked. 1st run time trial 60' was 1.27 but car started drifting toward center line and aborted run. 2nd run time trial 1.28 60' missed 2nd gear and ran 8.85 @ 162.57 by now temp was 90. eliminations - dialed in 8.85 against 10.64 - two perfect lights - 000 in both lanes! He broke out and ran 10.63 and we won - driver had to leave for function but it was a good day.

How true. After last run, 2nd gear went on transmission.Sent back to ATI to be rebuilt. When returned nice and fresh we will change bottom pulley on s/c to increase boost from 20# to 25#,increase jet size and look to run 8.4-8.5 in cool weather.

2nd gear going out means 9 out of 10 times the sprag went. And going up 5 psi is gonna be good for probably 100-150whp I imagine, which will be insane! You might need to put a glide in it! All that extra power might be a little tough to control! I'm interested! Would be nuts if you could get that thing to trap 170 and 130 in the 8th!

You're right on both counts - ATI called and said sprag is out and we will pick up 100+ hp - can't use glide because weight of car we need extra gear. Car was going through traps at 167 but rpms were over 7600, too much for bbc so reduced gears from 4:10 to 3:89 to keep rpm at 7100
CameronVic
08-17-2012, 06:53 PM
Well that makes sense about the weight thing, I didn't think of that. Can't wait to see it run again with that extra boost!

Slight detour along the way - got the freshened transmission back a couple of weeks ago, installed it and on the first run, at the starting line, the bell housing blew apart. Sent back to ATI, had ultra bell put on, new tranny case, new transmission pan. When bell housing broke, transmission moved enough to cause the drive shaft to twist into the drive shaft safety loop destroying the drive shaft (cut grooves into it). New drive shaft and repaired transmission was installed Thursday, at track Sunday - results to follow
