He is telling me that he dynoed at 687 h.p. to the wheels runs a 10.35 et in the quarter and has 24 lbs boost on the turbo! Sounds like a race only car to me,not a street car like mine... Any one want to take this fool on for his money. Oh I should mention the car has not been to a track yet! Wheres Barry when I need him,lol. :D

Check youtube for vids of this car. I would think anyone that has a car that can produce those kinds of #s has made a video of it to share with the world...

An SRT4 neon (not R/T, unless he swapped a turbo motor into one, which seems even more stupid honestly...) can be a potent performer, but the FWD is just SO counter intuitive to going really fast that it's absurd.

Don't underestimate the srt4's 10.30s are possible if he really has that kind of power. I guarantee you with that ET on that car he is trapping 140mph plus.
On my car I would only agree to a dig, measured 1/4 mile run in the street. Not at the track.

I don't think the motor is the problem for those cars, those 2.4s are pretty capable, I'm just curious what 2.0 motors they are using for a swap, if they aren't maybe Mitsubishi 4G63s, which are also VERY capable engines.

I'd be far more worried about the front end suspension and powertrain parts, I've heard those get absolutely torn up with any amount of power on those cars.

The fact that he'll race for "3000" dollars and he's so forthcoming with his mods, don't add up to me. You should tell him you don't get out of bed for less than 20 large and that you run 9s.

Have you seen said neon? There's a huge difference in a 13s neon and a 10s neon... However, I will say this, even a mild srt4 will demolish an n/a marauder :\

The trick is though to what degree are they modded? And is the driver anything more than a twerpy kid?

I encountered one once in my MM, in a story that's come to be known as the "FOUR CYLINDERS BRO" story.

I could see him behind me being an idiot trying to cut people close to weave through the traffic he got caught behind. I was in the front of this line of people (the rest of us were trying to be civil drivers at this point). He finally made it through and came around me hitting it hard, so I dropped into 2nd and kept ahead of him until about 75. Did rolls from 40 twice, both times I pulled him by like a bumper up to around 80. Of course by the time he had to shift into 4th each time, he'd rev the **** out of it like he missed a shift or something. He finally flies off because I wasn't game any more, but ended up catching him held up at the next light. I noticed he rolled down his window so he could talk to me, I look over, and he shouts "FOUR CYLINDERS BRO! YOU CAN'T HANG!"

I lol'd so hard I could hardly speak.


Ultimately though, this guy had a modded exhaust and I could actually hear his boost, so either he was blowing by VERY bad from his waste gate, or he had upped his boost higher than stock. I would've figured that he was modded at that point, but take it with a grain of salt as to modded SRT4 vs. Marauder comparisons.

Stock SRT4's have no muffler so you can hear the turbo spooling very well.

I'm not talking about that whistle of turbo spool, I'm talking about hearing what sounds like the whoosh of air you hear from a jet, but coming from under the hood.

Also, he was louder than a stock SRT4, I've heard them stock and this guy had some serious volume to the engine note.

the one I drove and had ran against had a few bolt-ons and was in the high 12s, still on the factory turbo. Once he switched to an AGP turbo, I was toast in the mustang running low 12s to his high 11s. Obviously driver skill is a big component in every race - I've taken down vipers, z06s and have lost to vw beetles at times... Good times. I did know a douche with a GTO that kept talking smack... When we finally got to line up, I waxed him et and mph. Despite that, he kept wanting to go from a roll, dismissing the track part as "too short", and unfair because I had sticky tires and he didn't... I arranged for him to meet with the neon, didn't go well. :D The driver of said neon was basically my mentor - the type of guy who can take your car down the track 3 times and beat your own time in it :lol:

Absolutely true. Sound even louder and crappier with the cat cut out. But they do make turbo back exhaust kits that add in mufflers and make em sound a bit more normal.

There's a lot of YouTube videos of SRT4s taking out terminator cobras. I have a guy in my other car club pulling 11s with mild bolt-ons. The car even looks and sounds stock. His biggest issue is getting the car off the line and hitting all the gears. I had one line up next to me and I heard his blowoff valve when he was downshifting coming to the light. I just let him go, I had half the mods I have now so it wasn't a contest.
