03 DBP Marauder, 43k, Charcoal Interior

I am selling my rare blue/charcoal 2003 Mercury Marauder for $13,500. I think there were 133 made in this color combination. It is 100% stock and original and always has been. It's a nice car in good overall condition. Never wrecked or been in an accident. It currently has 43,xxx miles on it. The seats and carpet are in nice shape with no tears or stains. The car has been in Colorado it's whole life so no corrosion, it's very dry here where I live.

There are only a few things to complain about and I'd like to be upfront and honest about them. One is that the stock subwoofer has a crackle to it when turned up a little bit. Another is that the A/C compressor makes a grunting noise the first time it's turned on for the day and a tiny bit of R134 sometimes sprays out of the pressure relief valve. It seems to work fine after that but I am going to avoid running it until I fix it or it sells. It JUST started to do this and I haven't looked into this problem yet. I am planning on fixing this in the next couple of weeks if the car hasn't sold by then. I am suspecting a compressor problem, a pressure relief valve problem, or a hose/condensor restriction of some sort (although I couldn't imagine how). There is also a fairly deep scratch on the rear bumper from the first owner taking something out of the trunk, you can see it just above the "MA" in the Marauder letter in the 4th picture down. There are some scrapes under the front edge of the front bumper cover from a parking lot entrance or curb or something which is somewhat common, also left from the first owner.

Anyways, I still have the original Marauder floor mats in storage, I just use the Husky liners (pictured) to keep the carpets nice. I just had the Ford dealership flush the transmission with fresh synthetic Mercon V and I have always used full synthetic in the engine. It's your standard run of the mill 91 Z28 (no 1LE, G92, B4C, etc.). It was a 305 TPI 5-speed car. It has only 52k miles on it and is the cleanest 3rd gen I've seen in a long time which is why it is now mine! It is in the middle of a LS1/T56 swap right now actually and I just finished installed C5 Vette brakes and some nice forged wheels. The LS1 is getting some stock 243 heads from an LS2 and an EPS 222/226 cam. Should run okay when finished. It will need a better rear axle soon. I don't have any recent pictures, but here are some from about 6 months ago when it was all stock:

No moonroof. I do have the clean title in hand with no leins on the car. I have had lots of interest but nobody to show up yet to take it. I guess I just live too far away from everyone. :)

I looked into the A/C system problem today. Looks like the compressor is dieing a slow death as I found a couple metal shavings in the orifice tube. The A/C was still working and it looks like I caught it right in time before catastrophic failure. I took it all apart and cleaned everything out (don't worry, I used to be a Ford and a Honda dealership tech) and ordered a new compressor, orifice screen, and accumulator/reciever drier. I am going to hold off selling it until those parts show up and I install them. Then I just have to get it to the A/C shop quick to get it flushed, evacuated, and recharged and it should be good to go.

Hope it was at least 13k+! I have more miles and do not think I would sell mine for the little. It is 1 of 328 and the dark charcoal interior is even more rare! Just saying, the OP should get the full amount or really close to it.

Just throwing this out there... Once the A/C is buttoned back up I am looking for the first $13,000 offer. If the market's not there it's not there and I'll have to go lower eventually, but for now I think I'll hold out a little while. I need to post it locally too, I just wanted to list it here first. I understand buying a car across the country is scary (I've been screwed a few times, gotten lucky other times). This is not a perfect brand new condition car, but it is a nice example of one of these cars and still has very reasonable mileage. I wouldn't have bought it myself if it weren't the nicest one I had come across back when I was looking for one. I didn't come across many though, and this one was only 4 hours away from me and I couldn't pass it up.

I've also had a couple people ask me if I'm the 2nd owner. I think that I technically am. The guy I bought it from said he bought it from the sales manager at the Ford dealership in Pueblo, CO. I guess the sales manager was using it as his demo car for a few months. I don't know if he ever registered and titled it or if he just drove it on dealer plates. Regardless the guy I bought it from owned it most of it's life and bought it from the dealer when it was still basically a new car.

I think you are entitled to your entire asking price and then some! Hold out if you can, the money will come.

I bought my DPB about 18 months ago from Detroit, sight unseen. I had a lot of pictures, talked to the owner a few times. I never even heard mine run before I bought it. She had 34K miles at the time.

Buyers have to consider, if they are looking for a blue, they are hard to find. If I was still in the market for a blue, I would buy this one for 13K, even with the AC not working.

My thoughts for what it is worth.

No it didn't sound like that at all. The A/C has been completely fixed and recharged. It works like new and is now completely silent (and it is no longer spraying R134 out of the pressure relief valve!).

I might go trade it in though. I will let you guys know what I decide to do here in a few days.

If they offer you a lowball trade-in price (which is their game) maybe you can hold off a few days and gives members another try at a lower price, but above the lowball price. I think it is a deal at the price you are asking and I would have at least looked at it and probably bought if you were closer.

The problem for buyers is that it's hard to get financing because of the age of our cars..I just bought mine approx 3 weeks ago and I was offering on 3 different cars that all of them were waiting because they had better offers..Problem was I was ready to write a check and these higher offers weren't ..ALL of them called me back and accepted my offer a week later,but I had already bought one..Bird in the Hand I always say..Good Luck with your sale and if somebody has cash even though it might be lower than what you want ..Take it..
