I heard on the news this morning, on the way to work, that the G8 Summit will be at Camp David starting Friday and ending Monday. Large demonstrations are planned for Frederick, Willow Grove, Thurmont, and as near to the gates of Camp David as the demonstrators can get. MD State Police are expected to have "a significant presence" throughout the area. They are also expected to periodically close US15 as the demonstrators "swarm the area";) (quoting one demonstrator that described their plans to the reporter).

Since many of us have to come up US15 through this route, I thought you should know. Check the Internet and the 511 Highway Information sites before you leave.

I'll never understand why people are afraid of a global economy, considering it exists (and has since WWII). After all, with economies of scale, the more products produced the lower the price. However, let's not hijack this thread for THAT discussion.

EDIT: Another site I frequent reports "Combat Air Patrols" already overflying Camp David. If you've got a scanner, you can hear them on 260.9 (Callsign "Huntress"). Another callsign for these patrols is "Guard Dog" on 135.525 and 126.55. Catoctin Mountain Park is on 171.725, but don't be surprised if you don't hear them until you are close, since that station is very low power. A listener on that other site reports that he heard (on 171.725) that "barricades are being set up."

Google Maps say 2 hours and 19 minutes in current traffic. That appears to be about a 20 minute delay in route .... could be work on the Capital Beltway. Maybe delays through Frederick with the G8 Deal. :dunno:

From southern MD, I'm planning to take the beltway to I95 North, to Rte 100 West, to I70 West. Then I'll just have fun cruisin' through country roads bypassing the Thurmont area.
