View Full Version : My console lid is squeaky and creaky!
When I push down on it and/or let go, or if my arm is on while driving, it creaks a lot and it's driving me nuts! Any suggestions before I do something crazy like take it part and slather Vasoline all over it?
I did take it apart last summer and cleaned it real good, but it didn't help.

Mine did that before I got it recovered. I stuck a couple of felt circular self adhesive pads, (they use them on wood cabinet doors) on the four corners of the console lid, stopped the rattle and creaking. After I got it recovered it quit. Might just need to tighten up your console bolts, maybe add some felt washers.
This also worked on the hood squeak, I just stuck them underneath where the hood meets the rubber stops.

Mide did this too. I found that are supposed to be 2 little rubber bumpers and a rubber ring around hole where the post goes into. The bumpers are located one on the front toward the driver side the other is to the rear on the passenger side. The ring goes in the hole that is on the rear of the driver side. If you go to a pick and pull you can get them from a Continental, thats where I got mine.
With the lid open, if I hold it with one hand and push the middle of the lid top to flex it, it squeaks so it isn't the lid meeting the rest of the console. The screws are tight. The factory rubber bumpers etc are intact.
Arrg! The squeaking is becoming the Tell-tale Heart! (but I'm not dreadfully nervous or mad - really)

Are all the retaining clips in place?

pull the whole thing out and add a little grease.
I had the same Ford "feature" a squeaky center console.
the lid is attached to the lower storage compartment and with the help of this forum I found that you can pull the center storage compartment out.
When I did this I could see where the storage compartment touches the support structure below (right where the spring clips insert in to the support structure).
I added a dab of synthetic grease at all the contact points the the creaky, squeaky is gone.:coolman:
