View Full Version : Project DOOM: Bright light Part 2

In the last thread I had changed out the rear map lights.

This time around the vanity, front map lights, footwell, shifter, main gauge cluster, glovebox and trunk were tackled with swapping over to LED bulbs. DOOM opted to stay with the Ford factory green for the main gauge cluster and shifter which still turned out fine. I didn't add a LED to the glovebox as it would of been a waste since it's never really open but I did replace the 194 bulb that was burned out.

DOOM is now Mr. 5K All The Way, with all of his aftermarket lighting done in 5K color temp.

I didn't really get any good after shots because my camera was acting up but DOOM will fill you in on how bright everything is. Two are facing downward from the trunk lid and one is placed on the bottom side of the rear deck which can be seen in one of the pictures below.

Trunk lighting (total of 36 leds via 3 round pucks that have 12 leds in each)

Maybe 4-5 hrs, that's with me really taking my time since it is not my car. The longest part was figuring out the trunk light setup and how I wanted to place the lights. I originally was shooting for 5 total lights in the trunk but was 3 worked out better and still a crap load of light.

I pulled out a magazine to read in the light and had to look at it with different angles because there was too much glare on the pages.

6 of these were used for the main gauge cluster lights

Everything besides what was used for his trunk I use in my car as well.

I wanna change my green lightning to blue but I turn my lights damn near out so would be pointless for me.

Not really too hard, I can have the gauge cluster out in 4-5 mins but that's only because I have done it so many times I know where all the screws are and such.

The only real trick with the LED bulbs is sometimes once installed you may need to pull the bulb back out and switch it around if it does not power up when sitting in one certain way or bend the contact points out some to make contact with the bulb holder. Maybe the next time I pull my gauge cluster out I will do a write-up on how to for it, just not sure when that would be.

First of all let me say the pics don't do it justice!

Lighting is AMAZING!!!

Birdman once again you have done a top notch job on my car!

When I picked the car up it didn't look like it was touched at all! :bows:

The trunk is so bright it lights up the ground from the rear all the way past the REAR WHEELS going towards the front of the car!

Birdman thank you one again for your excellent work!

I would reccomend any C.A.M member in the area that wants something like this done to look no further!

Birdman FTW!!! :banana2:

hey man, whats the total 194 bulbs you used?
Main Gauge Cluster - 6
Lower Gauge Cluster - 2
Shifter - 1
Footwell - 2
Glovebox - 1
Front map lights - 2 (only overhead light for short console, for long console these are the front lights towards the windshield)
Tag light - 1

I didn't replace the lower gauge cluster bulbs on DOOM's car since he has different gauges that were already white.

You don't need to pull out the gauges, I only did it for this reference picture and it made it easier for me to adjust the LED bulbs.

Great stuff!

That's right, the more you do it the easier and quicker it is, first time is the longest being careful with everything.

The only one i haven't tried is the shifter.
Does that just pop off?

thanks for sharing!

If it was only that simple. The lower gauges needs to come out, then pull the center console lid and housing up and out then the front part of the floor console can be moved.

Do you shave your legs Chris?
If you can't see the hair on my legs you must be blind.

No, I don't have you on any list. I sent you a PM back in April with a total for things and never heard back from you.

As I explained to you before I do not stock anything, I order everything once I have the money from the person to do so.

I have 3 or 4 other people who are interested in getting stuff done, first come first serve.

I will send you a PM, 5 lights in the trunk won't work right which is why I did not do it on DOOM's car, the 3 lights I used worked great.
