Tonight I went shifter kart racing at Bob Bondurant ( http://www.bondurant.com/karting-history ). I had a 3 hour private instruction from one of their Pro's. 100+ degrees and a fire resistant outfit and helmet made it that much more intense.
An average car or mini van will pull about .70-.80 in a turn, a very fast super car will corner up to 1g lateral in a turn, the shifter kart....2.50 g's in a turn. The braking and acceleration goes off the charts when compared to a super car. The course consist of a straight and a pretty technical section with a banked turn and a hairpin as well as several higher speed turns. Pulling on to the straight away and going through all 6 gears the kart gets up to 85mph before the tight left hander.
The best part is I have another 3 hour session to go. What a great evening...exhausting but great.
