This was my fuel gauge as I waited in line at the Costco gas station. It took 64.5 litres to fill 'er up, so I figure there was another 5 litres (just over 1 gallon) to go.
Don't want to find out!
I don't think the low fuel light has EVER come on in my marauder!

I never let mine get below a 1/4 tank, for various reasons; the most crucial being potential fuel starvation. The engine does not respond well to lean fuel conditions, especially if S/Cd.

Ran it out of gas. The needle was about a 1/4" below the E.

I recently learned that the fuel pump actually cools itself with the fuel. Been keeping the tank more full lately.

Were you driving when it ran out? Do you know how far you went after the light came on before running out?
I always reset the trip meter when the light comes on - let's me know how far I can go before I can't ignore it any more. In this pic, I got just over 36 km mixed freeway/city driving.
With 5 litres remaining, and my average 20L/100km fuel mileage, I should be able to go about another 25 km before hitting zero in the tank. But the pickup probably can't suck up the last drop of fuel in there, so I'm pretty sure I'd run out before then.

I usually say when the light come on I got 35miles to go then it's getting testy.

Is the MM your daily driver? Mine is, and I'd have to add gas every other day for the light to stay off. That's just too much time spent gassing up for me.

The most I ever pumped in was 18+ a tenth or two; this was enroute to family reunion last summer. Was in very rural IL and it was 2am...the last 20-25 miles before I finally found a gas station that was open, I was constantly thinking, "Yep, gonna be walking soon".
Now, I usually fill up every Tuesday to get the discounted premium price, so I can't remember the last time I've seen my low fuel light come on. When it does, I won't drive but 10-15 miles at most before filling 'er up again. Better to be safe than sorry, as I've had a few 'out of gas' experiences before...

My fuel gauge looked like that once on my way to Marauderville 9 last year. I pump just over 18.5 gallons of gas.

I always try to keep the tank atleast at 1/4 or better..I remember all the old warnings about the pump sucking up rust and debris on the bottom of tank..

I drove home from a meet in NJ when the light came one right after I pulled out of the lot. I drove about 50 miles home, then got back in the car to attend a local meet when I ran out of gas about 3 blocks away. So basically I went about 55 miles with the light on.

That, too; reason #2 for keeping the fuel level in the tank up past 1/4.

When the fuel light comes on you should still have around 80km left to go. The tank has a ~75L capacity. 72 to be safe.
It is true the fuel cools the pump. Best to fill it when you can and don't let it run too low.

It is true the fuel cools the pump. Best to fill it when you can and don't let it run too low.I think a lot of people don't realise how important this is. Letting the tank run low once in a great while isn't going to kill the fuel pump, but it's not something you should do on a regular basis on ANY car with an in-tank electric fuel pump...which is EVERY car nowadays. Overheating and stressing the pump will shorten its life.

Light in the SB came on tonite on the way home from the Thursday cruise nite. I figure I could go another 35 miles or so but why risk it. I'll fill it back up tomorrow(today actually looking at the clock) Good time for a fill-up as gas prices have been coming down. Probably won't need another fill til we leave for the NH meet in August.

Eric, if the Thunderwagon or whatever it's called ;) sits a lot, it's better to keep the tank as full as possible to avoid condensation.

Good advise Bob and Paula calls him Thor. We ran it down from Full for the Carlisle weekend and it sits in front of the DD during the week so I have to do a little driveway jockeying to get it out. It will be getting its serving of 93 this evening.
Thinking of doing a car show or two this weekend.:)
