Hi Folks.....
I am about to tackle the stat change and see that it is in a weird place....Low enough to lose a bunch of coolant??
Where can I get some "Yellow" Anti-Freeze like is used in our cars and how much will I actually lose?? :help:
Any tips from experienced "Modders" would be greatly appreciated!! :help:
Thanks,
Marauderjack :D

One of our members, don't remember who, clamped off the hoses and didn't lose any. I wasn't so lucky (or talented) and lost about a pint if I remember correctly (it's been more 'n a year). Got the replacement at Pep Boys.

It is an after market product now.

I used a towel and a large set of needle nose vice grips. But I suppose any number of woodworking clamps would word. Protect the hose from scuffing.

The antifreeze is GLYSANTIN .
Go to Autozone and look for the gold color gallon jug of antifreeze that in large letters has G 05 on the front. You need to make sure you get the G 05 The inhibitor package in the G 05 is slightly different than the traditional green coolant and is expected to give double the service life. I believe it is around $9.00 a gallon. Hope this helps you out.

Coolant is readily available, as previously stated. I, somewhat of a neat freak, and a tight wad, attempted to catch all of mine in a bucket. Sorry to say, I ended up missing about a quart and a half. Also, when re-filling, a lot of patience will be necessary as for some reason the design of this cooling system seems to be averse to being re-filled, and enjoys holding air. It ended up taking me a couple tries to get all the bubbles out. You'll know real soon if there's air in it as the temp will rise.

I bought a gallon of Zerex G-05 at AutoZone, just in case I spilled any when changing my 'stat...don't remember what it cost, but it says right on the jug that it's compatible with the Ford factory fill...look for Ford spec WSS-M97B51-A1.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted y'all to know that (major auto parts store mentioned above) isnt going to carry the zerex gold antifreeze anymore. if you need it, hurry while its there, or hit the dealer for the ford stuff.

How do you know this? My local AZ just started carrying Zerex G-05 again a few months ago, after a long absence...

Hookers use vice grips... Mechanics use Vise Grips.. definitely a difference..

When I replaced my t-stat I use Motorcraft Premium Gold engine coolant. Once I was in Auto Zone I was drawling a blank as to which color and just ask on of the people at the counter and they knew exactly what I needed since 2004 FMC vehicles started using Gold color engine coolant.

BTW, my '03 built in May 2003 uses the Motorcraft Gold as well as my '04.

Motorcraft Premium Gold engine coolant = Zerex G-05. They are the OEM.

Seems there are slightly different formula versions per State as well, but if you buy from a Ford dealer you'll get the right one.

Seems there are slightly different formula versions per State as wellThere's a special version for California and Oregon which contains a bittering agent, to make it less palatable to animals. At this time only those 2 states require its use.
