I figured I would start a Music thread for any of my Marauder brothers & sisters that play or sing or just like music in general.

I have started to play the drums again after 15+ years of not playing. I dusted off the old kit and got some new pedals and cymbals. My Wonderful wife just let me order a Custom Maple DW VLT Collectors Series Snare :snare:and I'm way amped. Although it will take 14 weeks to get it I can't wait. I have made a YouTube Channel so people can watch my progression in relearning and be able to hear some Classic Rock from when I was growing up.

Please take a little time and check out what has been put up over the past several months. I you like what you see Please subscribe to my channel. I don't get time to play often but, think I see some improvement since having restarted. It's all a work in progress. If anyone also plays and feels like doing a collaboration video PM me and we can hook up. Maybe the next Marauderville we can get a band together. :sing:

Here is the URL to my Channel:

Looks cool! I've been playing piano for roughly 24 years now. Classically trained, I can read and write music, and can play by ear. It's quite fun.
I'm totally down a for a collaboration video or something!

I love Rush also, but of course they are very tough to play at least drum wise. We will have to come up with a song that has some Keyboards in it for u to show off, LOL
There are a few Springsteen songs with piano in them. Although I think Van Halen has some Keyboards "Jump" has some in there

What kind of pedals and cymbals did you go with?

I went with the DW 3000 Double pedals. And I am in the process of replacing all the cymbals to Sabian Paragons . So far I have replaced my Ride, Hats, and 2 Crashes with the Paragons. Next thing is probably going to be the Hi Hat stand because one of the legs on my Sonor stand kind of gets in the way of my bass pedal as u can see in the pic. Its a toss up between the DW 5000 series 2 leg stand or the Gibraltar 9600 Series Dual Leg Hi-Hat Stand With Liquid Drive.

Maybe one day if I continue to play more and more and hit the lottery I will get myself a full DW Kit. I like the DW Edge snares also. The DW Vlt I just ordered is also a 14x6. I got the Regal Blue to Black Burst Lacquer. ;)

What kind of kit do you have? Do you Mic your kit? Im thinking of mics or triggers for my kit. I record my videos with a cheap camera and Im looking to be able to control the sound from the kit better, any suggestions

Thanks for checking out a vid. Some do sound good and others not so much. Its tricky trying to mix the volume between the actual song and me playing.

Attach a pic of your kit. It looks blue from your avitar, if thats your kit. Put up one of the videos too. Would love to see you play. I like watching others play, helps me learn different ways of doing things. Since I have never taken a lesson this is how I learn.

I would say the drummer I like the best would be Neil Peart from Rush. I also like Buddy Rich, Mike Portnoy, and many others
Jeff Porcaro was a great drummer he played with many different bands. He was one of the most recorded drummers in history, It is a shame he passed away at such a young age. I have yet to master his half time shuffle that he uses in the song Rosanna. I cant seem to get that down to save my life:alone: Check it out

JP was a great drummer. I believe he played with Steely Dan on a few of their LPs.
I'd have to say Keith Moon is my favorite drummer, probably because of the "enthusiasm" with which he played. If you look at some of the old vids, he is so much in sync with Pete Townsend it's scary...
BTW, I'm not a musician, just an avid listener of 60s-70s classic rock, and The Blues.

Go with the DW 5000 stand. That's the one I have. Nothing gets in the way of your "slave" pedal.
Strong / solid / dependable!

As far as the Paragons go; I don't have them myself (although all mine are Sabian AAX Explosions / and a heavy ride)...the sound of the Paragon Ride is up there with the best rides I've ever tried!
