Well, for some reason I decided instead of just tracking a salvage DTR on a watch list I would put in a low bid and keep an eye on it that way. So imagine my surprise when I got a call telling me I won the auction. Needless to say, the wife was not happy about that.
Got the car shipped in and after programing in new keys we were able to drive it off the trailer.
Wasn't sure what to to do with it since it has 134K miles on it, but the rest of the car looked very clean and well maintained. It looks like it took a hit outboard of the right headlight by catching on the underride bar of a semi-truck. Didn't even touch the front impact bar or energy absorber. Air bags and seat belt charges didn't go off. The upper right control arm was bent.
Since the right front wheel and frame checked out straight, I decided to fix it instead of parting it out. Decided to use all Ford parts instead of wrecking yard stuff since the rest of the car was so nice. The hardest part was finding a new front bumper cover.
After the repairs, This salvage car drives as good as or better than the others. I did the J-Mod and filter change to the trans and it chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift just like the others.
So...2 months later, I now have a DTR to use when the others need work or as a loaner for when fixing friend's cars. Even the wife likes the red.
I just hate seeing so many of these nice MM's going to the scrapyard because it has become so expensive to fix them.
Anyhow, just wanted to share this story of a "pound rescue" and putting another MM back on the road.
Sweet, way to go!
Okay, I can't be the only person wondering, how much did you pick it up for if you don't mind.

Thanks. I went a bit overboard I think. I wanted it to not look repaired so I even paint oversprayed where all the bolts hold the sheetmetal together and misted paint on all the back sides of the panels just like the factory (even though no one will ever see it unless the parts are removed) I was also able to save and transplant the VIN tags (yes, I know this is frowned on, but had to see if it would work) from the damaged parts to the new ones.
As for the price..at the risk of destroying any profit when/if I sell it, I paid $3050.00 for it.
Guess I should look for a Silver Birch to finish the set.....

Dang, well I would say you did great! You could trade it or sell and probably make out like a bandit.

I doubt that you destroyed any profit margin, 3k for the car, 2-3k to fix it, as long as the title is not branded, you can still make money, branded, you'll probably break even.

Yea, it's a branded Salvage title. On my car projects, if I break even, that's coming out ahead to me ...

Now you need to find a silver one and put winter tires on it.
