Hey I'm going to England and I may drive stuff. I know the steering wheel is on the right hand side, but are the pedals the same? Or will I be giving it gas with my left foot and braking with my right?

Pedals are the same as here.

The food however, is the worst in all of Europe.

The new part.

New England? The cars are just like here; same cars in fact.

Check with your insurance carrier to see what is involved with driving overseas to make sure you are covered just in case.

Here's my 2-cents:

I found it fairly easy to adapt to driving on the left with 2 exceptions... when turning from one street to another, I found myself automatically heading for the right-hand lane and had to consciously force myself to get into the left lane.

The other thing is that most rental cars come with manual transmission...you pay a hefty surcharge for an automatic, if one is even available in your class. Although the shift pattern is the same as here, operating the lever with your left hand takes some getting used to.

this is something i always wondered. when you say that pattern is the same do you mean a mirror image or exactly the same as our cars?

Shift paterns are same as here (not mirror) just operate the shifter with left hand.

Pedals, steering wheel, turn signal stalk, etc. arranged in same pattern - just located on the wrong side of the car... :shake: (hee hee hee)

Actually you adapt to the vehicle quite quickly. Even adapt to straight driving easily. Its usually making turns that mess you up as you will gravitate to the right lane when completing the turn out of habit and then you go "oh $h!t"!

Is Joey going with you? I took taxis when I was there. After Italy they would not let me drive in Europe anymore.

Hi all,

I was stationed in England twice while in the U.S.A.F. Shifting with the left had is not hard. You just have to think about it (unlike it being automatic here.) Roundabouts have replaced almost all signal lights and stop signs except in the large cities. In Swindon they have what is called the "Magic Roundabout". It is a large roundabout surrounded by five smaller roundabouts from five different streets converging. Just remember the rules and there's nothing to it. Cars in the roundabout have the right of way. Enter the roundabout when the way is clear and exit the roundabout when you come to the street you need. (Keep left!) Traffic is traveling Clockwise.

Traffic is traveling Clockwise.

Sure looks Counter-Clockwise to me. Check it again. The center is counter-clockwise. The exterior turns are counter-clockwise. Only the mini-roundabouts are clockwise. Anyone remember Rube Goldberg???? He must have had his hand in this design.
