Very touching and I am glad she got closure. That congressman should be ashamed of himself. He didn't even try to find him, he just sent her a reply to shut her up. He didn't mean his apology. I am sure some assistant wrote it for him.

Taking the time to try and find out what happened would have left little time for hookers and booze out on the golf course. Then to not even man up to it. What a Dbag.:shake:
Glad that lady got some closure.

A little more on the story here, Part 2 >>>>> http://354thpmfg.com/BillieDHarris_part2.html
It seems that part of the confusion may have come from 1LT Harris' name. The local townspeople thought that his name was D'Harris (name was on his flight jacket) and that he was a Canadian flyer (with a French sounding name). They even flew a Canadian flag over his original gravesite until 2005 when all of this got sorted out.
I doubt that the Congressman ever saw the letters from the widow. You can probably chalk up that bit of insensitivity and incompetence to one of the Congressional staffers working in his office. He probably SHOULD HAVE seen it; but likely didn't ... or probably wouldn't admit it. :(
