The auction has turned into a joke now.

Up to $24.5 million..... unassembled.

It's a shame the way eBaY lets jerks ruin an authenic auction. The FBI has investigated the auction and DID NOT end it. So the guy must really have the bird for sale legitimately.

Well, the auction was finally removed from eBaY. Pranksters had run it up way past the cost of a brand new fully assembled jet fighter. 225 bids last time I saw it on eBaY.

You wanna go partners on a MIG-21? You can keep it every other day, I will keep it every other day.

The news today said the bidding on the Blue Knights got up to $99 million and eBaY decided to pull the auction. Wish I could see the bidder's list and how many get punished or disciplined! HAHAHAHA!!!

I had put a watch on this item and now it comes up invalid. E-bay must have taken it off the site. The bidding got silly! Last saw it was over 50 million dollars. Seems there was something fishy going on with it. The same compnay also had an auction up for a mig. They seems to have a knack for obtaining aircraft that is normally illegal for a private citizen to own.
Things that make you go hhhmmmmm......

Things that make you go hhhmmmmm......

The jets were allegedly and legitimately purchased during the Clinton administration supposedly. The FBI had already investigated it.

As far as illegal...... in the past I have asked people who should know.... yet they didn't. It's very hard to find a definite YES or NO answer anywhere. But it is my understanding you can buy almost anything you want. If you lay $168 million on Newport News Shipbuilders, they will build you an aircraft carrier, without armaments of course. It's not a "war machine" until all the armaments are added. The same is true of jet fighter. It's not a "war machine" until the armaments are added. Obviously, and as you probably know, you can buy as many full auto M-16s as you want if you apply for and qualify for a Class III weapons tax stamp. So what we think is illegal and what isn't, isn't always.

The argument to the above would be that post 9-11-01 certainly proves a jet, even without armaments, could be a "war machine". Well, so is a 747 in that case. And civilians can buy them.

it's a wild and whacky world out there! :shake:

The bidding hit $99,999,999 last night and eBay shut it down and reset the bid to whoever had $25mil and punished (banned I suppose...) those who bid that ungodly amount. Then after it looked like it was heading for the same road, they pulled it for further investigation of the bidders.

Why would it be illegal t own one?

It might be difficult to get all approvals to actually fly it, but I think some in private hands are already flying. (ex-jet fighters that is, not necessarily F-18s)

Odd during the Clinton administration you could buy this, but they were busy destroying rifles etc.
Makes you wonder why such an ac wasn't transferred to the NG or Air/Nav res

His MIG-29 Fighter Jet is still up for auction...... From the pictures, it appears to be pretty much in one piece, all one would have to do is install the wings back on it.

"This is one of only two MIG 29 Jets in private ownership in the US.
Like new 1986 MIG 29 Jet Fighter Complete and only 110 TTSN and a zero time engine since rebuild. serial and N number to be provided to the new owner at time of sale"
