Not a Marauder, but a cool Mercury sighting nonetheless....
I ran across this at a local cruise-in at a burger joint. It's a 1969 Dan Gurney Cyclone II....Only 218 made and only 35 known to still be registered...And here it was at a car hop!

Standard motor was, I believe, the 351.
The 390 and 428 were probably options.
Car didn't come with buckets or a console either. Bench seats were standard issue.
But, I loved the fastback style. (I bought a new 68 Cyclone GT fastback way back when.)

351W and auto was the only way the Spoiler IIs came. The regular W-nose Spoilers could be had with a 428, 351 and I think, 390, and auto or manual. That's a pretty nice car - I've seen it in person as well.

Hey Cobra, I see you have the Yarborough version....Very cool.
You ever bring the MM out? I've been to several shows/cruise ins and I'm the only MM and usually the only Mercury. I've seen the Cyclone and a very cool Monterey with sliding rear glass...but not much else.

No, I usually bring my GT, but I may bring the Marauder this weekend... It's hardly as nice as yours, but I've got plans for it. I was trying to get Fastblackmerc to make it out too. It would be pretty cool to have three at G57 on Saturday.

That's a nice one. From numbers I've seen in an old registry, the W-nose cars are rarer than the long nose ones.

That's a beauty!
Reminds mew of my 68 GT fastback.
I removed the center hood emblem, and painted the headlamp doors black to match the grille. Then, I added the hoodscoop, ram air filter, flat black hood decal, hood locking pins, and 3:50 rear.
Looked fast, but it was only a 302/4v. Peppy, but no worldbeater.

Grill 57 has posted on Facebook that they will be having another cruise-in this coming weekend since it ended up raining this past one. Hopefully I can make it to this one.

Really love the Gurney/Cale cars. Wouldn't mind either one, no preference.

The Cyclone II pictured was the Mercury version of the Ford Torino Talladega. The Talladega only came in 3 colors as I recall and only with a 428 Cobra Jet,automatic on the column and bench seats,I'm not sure which engine came in the Cyclone II.
Ford came out with these to counter Mopars improved aerodynamics Charger 500 so when they started beating it Mopar came out with the Charger Daytona.
Funny thing was Ford's Talladega won at Daytona and The Charger Daytona won at Talladega in '69.
Richard Petty switched to a Ford Talladega for 69,to lure him back Plymouth designed the Superbird for him.
The Mercury Cyclone II's won more races than the Talladegas and were more popular on the track.
BTW,you can tell a Superbird from a Daytona from 1/4 mile away easily,ALL Superbirds came with vinyl tops to hide the weld marks Plymouth made modifying the stock rear window to the Charger 500/Daytona style flush rear window.

Only the automatic 351. Not sure why, as the regular engine lineup were all available with the "regular" (W-nosed) Yarborough and Gurney Spoilers...
