NASA's Mars rover, Curiosity, landed perfectly a few minutes ago and immediaely started sending back picutres. JPL is jumping for joy. Landed within two meters of target after a nearly eight month, 154,000,000 mile journey.

Maybe NASA will get some more funding now.
Of course, we may have to wait for another administration to take over.;)

I wish we could focus on a manned mission to mars. We gained so much from going to the moon, it makes one wonder what we might discover on Mars

That's funny. :rofl: The first pic is actually "Marvin the Martian".

Its been a long, long time coming. Some 55 years ago when I was 7 years old, we worried about Martians all the time. Seems that back then, that was THE place that most if not all aliens came from. In fact, we didn't even know they were aliens ..... they were all Martians. Must have all started with Orson Wells' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast on 30 October 1938. So after nearly 75 years, we finally made it.

justbob,you really should make the trip to Alcala while you're down there and spend the day at the Don Garlits Museum,I've been there a few times and there's some pretty neat stuff there!
Take your time and you'll spend the better part of a day there.make sure you bring a camera with a decent size flashcard and extra batteries.

I bet the astronomy dudes that decided on the name "Uranus" (what could go wrong since it's pronounced "uruh-nus"?) are shaking their heads....however, the only other option at the time was "Cunylinges" (pronounced "cue-nee-lin-jess")

I don't need sceintific equipment or a degree to tell you nothing can survive the type of gas that is emitted...

Did we really make it to the moon or was it some place else? We made it to the moon with less technology and with modern day advances we couldn't return....really? They say it's so far away.

Like it was already said whatever they find on Mars we will not now the whole truth.

Yup, they were in quite a good mood today for obvious reasons!

Took a bunch of cool pics, even toured the vehicle assembly building (first time public has ever been allowed in there and soon to be locked up tight again) We were also graced with shuttle Alantis being stored in there till its new resting place is finished summer 2013.

I witnessed the first shuttle launch on April 12 '81 when I was eight. We just happened to be vacationing nearby at the right time so we parked as close as we could get and camped out in the car. It was a sight to see! Looking around you would have to have thought all of America showed up.

I guess that's why Columbia's fate sent more chills down my spine than Challenger's did?
