View Full Version : Prayer request for my dad

Last week my dad was in the process of some home repairs and had a pretty nasty fall, face forward onto the concrete car port. He has Parkinson's disease and his balance and reflexes are quite poor. He was unable to brace himself for the fall and subsequently ended up with a concussion and a pretty nasty laceration to his forehead. That night on the way to the ER my mom phoned his family physician and told him what happened. The doc said take him to my office and I will sew him up. X-rays made just to be safe. Over the next couple days he complained of pain behind his left ear that was not relieved with tylenol or motrin, described as "10 times worse than any crick I have ever had in my neck". I advised him to get a ct scan and within hours the ortho doc called me and said he had fractured cervical vertebrae #1, both anterior and posterior. Essentially my 70 year old dad had been walking around with a broken neck for a couple of days. If you get the chance to send up a prayer or two for his speedy recovery, we would be thankful. If you are not the praying type, we would appreciate positive thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It is pretty safe to say that he is very fortunate, usually the outcome is not this good. He will have to wear a hard collar for 12-14 weeks while it heals.

respectfully,
Stacy

Very fortunate indeed. I lost a friend about 15 years ago in a similar accident. :( He was about 10 years older than me. He fell off a ladder cleaning gutters and landed badly in the driveway. He was in a coma for 2 months and never regained consciousness. As a result, I am no longer permitted on the roof or anywhere near it. Seems this is a fairly common type accident. Here's hoping for a speedy and uncomplicated full recovery for your father.
