So I made a 360 mile round trip from RI to NYC today for lunch at Katz Deli in Manhattan. My JHS friends from 34 years ago decided to get together, great time!

I'm on my way back. 85 all the way except for the usual traffic spots. Get on the Newport bridge, this is hill type of bridge, not flat. I get over the top in the center and see a trooper coming my way from the opposite direction. I step on the brake a bit to slow down, he goes over the middle and out of sight.

I'm looking in my mirror and seeing the break lights of all the cars going over the top in the opposite direction. Damn, I say, he's turning around. I get in the right lane between a couple of cars. Next thing I see is the trooper appearing over the top of the bridge behind me in the left lane, catching up quick. Wheew, he PASSES me! I sigh with relief...and just before I start to smile, wouldn't you know he slows down and gets behind me, no lights.

We get off the bridge and he pulls me over at the gas station, gets out, takes my registration, etc. When he gets back, he informed me of my excellent driving record and asked if the Marauder goes any slower. Turns out I was going 71 on a 40mph bridge. He then asked if I'd be interested in selling the car. I asked him if it would get me out of a ticket.

He gave me my stuff back and said have a nice day :)

The Veteran plates may have helped a bit also :)
:woohoo:

Cool story. Being from that area originally, I can put myself in the situation. My gosh, I can't beleive the speed limit is still that slow on that bridge. Question, is the MT Hope bridge still a two laner? I guess it was just your lucky day.

Btw, you shouldv'e directed him here, there are planty of good MM's for sale.;)

That's a great story and lucky too!

Time to get a Valentine One, you would have picked him up long before going on the bridge.

Yes, and the speed limit on Mt, Hope is 10. The Sakonnet River bridge will be tolled 4 bucks each way , like the Newport bridge.

Great story, Pete! BTW Can't believe you went all the way to the lower East Side to Katz Deli.... but have to agree the pastrami is good! (Used to work in that neighborhood when we lived in Manhattan and remember the day Prez Clinton showed up for lunch there.);)

Saw old friends and enjoyed driving through the city smokin' all the CV taxis :) I remember going to Katz when it was just another one of the NYC delicatessens. The place must make a fortune now, line around the corner when we left.

I lived at Waterside Plaza on 25th and FDR for years.

A good attitude and a clean driving record goes a long way! Being a vet helps as well!:flag:
