Hmmm...what is this camera attached to? You can pan around to see the entire rover but no arm visible holding the camera that took the panorama.

Barstow has tumbleweeds foo! Trona and Ridgecrest too. Kernville actually has trees and water! ;)

I see what you mean. They just edited anything that would block the view since they have pics from every angle. It' just like if you were standing in a room and I took every possible picture of that room, even with you in a lot of the pictures, you could reconstruct it in a way where the room is a perfect realistic 3d panorama without you showing up in the final image.
