"...Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon July 20, 1969, capping the most daring of the 20th century's scientific expeditions. His first words after setting foot on the surface are etched in history books and in the memories of those who heard them in a live broadcast..."

Looks like that lifetime ban and stripping him of those Tour de France titles didn't last long.
Huh?
Oh...sorry.

Stayed up a little after bedtime and watched it "Live "....one of my fondest memories of family life in UT.
had just been married and purchased a new home in April of '69....had no furniture...just an aluminum folding lawn chair and large floor pillows...with that, we watched the moon landing.....I have a t-shirt that says "I might be old but I got to see all the cool bands". The same goes for living thru the great space race with the Russians...we won-case closed! Also at this time, remember his fellow crew members, Buzz Aldren and Michael Collins....the statement from the Armstrong family said a little something that included the saying, " next time you look at the moon, give it a little wink". RIP Neil Armstrong. With all that said and done, include in your prayers, a tribute to astronauts Grissom, Chafee and White whose lives were lost in a launch pad fire.

You are correct .....
Apollo 11 landed on the moon at 20:18 UTC (16:18 EDT = 4:18 PM Eastern Daylight Time).
Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Moon at 02:56 UTC (22:56 EDT = 10:56 PM Eastern Daylight Time)
I am old enough to remember it ..... just can't remember watching it. :o

Shook his hand when I was five. My grandfather was the restaurant manager at the Grumman Bethpage facility. They'd often hold open houses for the public to see their latest projects. I climbed into a LEM replica and came home with models, decals, and other memorabilia.
