Most of you on here know what I do for a living. Well on Wednesday the 5th I was at work heading to a robbery. I was driving on Route 100 near Catherine Avenue in Pasadena. It was pouring rain so I was driving cautiously, when my 2008 CVPI lost traction and hydroplaned. I went off the road into the grassy median. I felt the car going sideways and the next thing I knew it overturned. The car landed on its roof and I was stuck upside down still seat belted in. The car landed in the lowest point of the median which was filled with about two feet of water and the car was filling up very quickly. I survived the crash but now was in fear of drowning inside the car. I finally got the seat belt off and crawled out through the shattered drivers door window. I went to the hospital and had some x-rays done. Nothing was broken, just a sprained neck and a lot of cuts on my left arm from the window glass. I got lucky. I saw my car the next day and the roof was crushed right above my drivers door. The headliner actually touched the top of the head rest. I really attribute me still being alive to my car. It took it like a champ and did everything it could to keep me safe. I'll miss my side partner, her replacement will not be the same. Drive carefully.

Glad to hear your okay. Nothing will replace the Panther platform as a safe cop car.
Glad to hear you're ok!
Thank god you were wearing your seat belt! As you know we just lost an officer in P.G. county when he was in a high speed chase and crashed! He wasn't wearing his seat belt!
Thank you for your service.

Thanks for all the replies. All of us take driving for granted and don't really think about it too much until something like this happens. My wife bought me a box of Lucky Charms, she figured I needed to replenish my luck as I must have used it all up on the crash. I know how bad it can be as we recently lost a Prince Georges County Officer in a crash and the same night as mine a Harford County Sheriff was killed in a crash. Very happy to still be here. My shift has really taken good care of me including some photos. I'll share them in the near future. Thanks again everyone.

wow glad to see you are ok, about a year and a half ago a gentleman I know with a W31 and lots of Oldsmobile parts skidded off an icy road and the same thing happened. Unfortunately it was in the middle of nowhere in Indiana and he couldn't unbuckle and drowned upside down in just a few feet of water.

Here are two photos. Sorry, I had to reduce the size as the files were huge. Amazingly the light bar survived the crash and was still operating as it was towed away.

Glad you're back in the saddle, so to speak. I was the designated driver last friday night when my wife and I and another couple went out to Cancun Cantina...when we left there was a nice police presence there from your fellow officers. I'm glad I stayed sober...it's a good feeling to have that as a deterrent to drinking and driving. I felt better knowing my chances of making it home safely were improved. Thanks!

I think we have part time security at Cancun. I just looked at that second photo again and notice how the water still beads up on the hood. Man that was a great car. Everyone says cars are just metal and can be replaced but I spend a lot of time in my car, its almost like a side partner.

So far I can only say its ok. Its no Crown Vic. Room wise is fine, the trunk is deep but the trunk opening is small so the items furthest forward is impossible to reach. The driver seat is very comfortable. The floor shifter is taking some getting use to, still reach for the column. I haven't really gotten my foot into it yet, with all this rain I'm not taking any chances. Seems to have pretty good pick up for a V6, I think its rated at 301hp. One thing that really annoys me is the keys. The keys are laser cut and have the remote fob and key as one unit. I'm having trouble getting extras made. I'm use to the limitless amount of keys that could be cut for the Crown Vic. Often we leave the cars running and lock the doors because of all the equipment we have to run. Now its hard to do that. Still working on a solution. A new car is a new car, and I have the very first and as of right now only one on the road. We bought 8 and 6 of the 8 had to go back to GM to get oil leaks at the timing cover repaired, it was a bad RTV job at the factory.
Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. I'm doing fine. I'm told that I will have some permeant damage to a muscle on my shoulder that moves the left side of my neck, super something or other its called. It will get worse over time. Sometimes it feels like a stiff neck, like when you sleep on it wrong.
CBT the headliner was actually touching the top of the head rest. It caved in quite a bit.
Murked I was just in Crystal River last month! That may be too far north though. I watched the Ravens playoff against Denver game on a flat screen TV floating in a swimming pool in January (it was 81 degrees!).
Photos to come.

How'd I miss this?
I am glad you made it through brother! Sorry you got a Chevy. We are getting them also. Good point on the keys - hope there is a cheep solution. I am trying to keep my 2011 CVPI as long as possible! That said, a take home car is a take home car! I am not picky!

Doom there is one marked Intrepid left, a school officer drives it, it only has like 50k on it.
I saw 164 at the shop yesterday. Didn't look too bad, looks like it took out a curb, front left wheel down. Thats an '11.
I've seen photos of the MSP Caprice but have not seen one in person yet. Baltimore City has a bunch, V6 of course.
This is our first one out on the road, we ordered 8, the other 7 are waiting to be put in service. Its different.

I'm shocked that Baltimore spent the money!

IIRC BPD leases their cars, which seemed unreal to me. Who would want a beat to death BPD car back after service. Those cars are run 24/7 and are driven hard on the city streets. I heard they got 80 of them and the first day they got them they totaled 3.
