I've been doing a lot of research on this handgun and it really has my interest as being my first handgun purchase. Just looking for some real owner opinions on it, if anyone owns one.

I don't own one but have owned a few CZ handguns. If you haven't held one yet I strongly advise you to do so, I never could get used to having the slide inside the frame, as there wasn't very much to grip onto when cycling.

The CZ SP01 Phantom is a upgrade of the venerable CZ75B. I own a 75B Military and you can shoot the daylights out of them. Not exactly CCW friendly due to size/weight. There are quite a few variations of the the CZ75 platform. The platform itself is a Browning Hi Power derivative. The double action trigger on my 75B Military is a touch long for me. I use it in the cocked and locked mode, like a 1911.

You may want to go here to: www.czforum.com/ (http://www.czforum.com/)

Also check out Gunbroker for a better idea on what your actual price should be. They can vary widely. DO NOT pay retail MSRP.

Currently Maryland doesn't allow CCW so I'm not too worried about that.

I'm more so looking for something that I can have fun sport shooting with and a solid home defense piece. I've always heard great things about CZ HGs and I don't like a heavy gun, which is why I'm interested in the Phantom model as it's lightweight.

I know you are asking about CZ....My money went to a 40 cal Springfeild XD.
Shot a glock,browning,XD in one sitting...bought the XD as it gave me the tightest group at 12-13 yards...

Now to buy the accessories...

I looked at the Springfield XD as well. Nothing is 100% set in stone on the CZ but that's what I am leaning towards.

Glock Model 22 40 cal would fit what you want. Goes bang everytime if you don't limp wrist it. You could also get a Model 17 slide and mags for 9mm practice. If you really want 9mm, stick with either Federal HST 124grn HP or Winchester SXT 124 grn HP for you home defense ammo. Same if you go 40, but use 165grn. 180's tend to over penetrate.

I have heard that spare mags for some of the new models are very expensive. I have not priced them for this one, but something to check. I think it will accept the .22 Kadet conversion kit. I am always a fan of conversion kits that let me get trigger time for cheap.

I keep trying to resist the urge to get a 75BD. It take the standard 75B mags, and I prefer the de-cocker setup (same as the SP-01), but it lacks the rail on the front.

Nice weapon.

When I was doing a pile of research to buy my 1st I read a lot of Law Enforcement trade mags and found numerous articles on how PD's were converting from 9mm's to 40 cals. Reason was the LEOs were having troubles with the 9mm's wounding but not stopping the perps when shot. They conerted to 40 cals for stopping pwr.

I ended up getting a Browning S&W 40 cal like the LEOs.

Me likee!!! :uzi::gunfire:
