any ideas on what to do to fix the air bag light

it just is always on now but at first will flash on and off a couple times and they go off and afteer months of ignoring it now it will blind and stay on now and will not go off

so what to you guys thing i could do to fix this i tryed to ignore it and when taking my speedometer out and changing all bulbs to led took bulb out completly and thought that would work....but no it coused a beeping noise and will just beep n beep n beep...as stated beofr eits a safety issue and needs a bulb in it so thats didnt work

i tryed changing out all the fises/relay that had anything to do with the airbag and NOPE this no fix..

so im going to guess its a short in the circuit somewhere bec now ill glance over at it and its blinking super fast and them will stay lite solid and then will blind super fast again and then stay lite

so how will i go about digging into the circuit and checking if there is somethign wrogn with the wire bec i dont have a clue and want to get it fixed bec i ignored it for a while now and now its just bugging me :mad2:

If it blinked then its a code. It can be scanned and diagnosed. Did this start when you reversed the wires?

When you first start the car, count the number of blinks, followed by a pause, then count the next number of blinks. You will get a pair of numbers that you can research at http://www.vehix411.com to determine what's causing the light to be on.

Or.... you could just read it with a code reader.

Usually what I have seen on the CV's is,

1) the latch for the seat belt is open
2) the wires under the seat for the air bag are either unplugged or broken
3) wiring harness under the carpet is chafed, running from the driver side to the passenger side.
4) an air bag module or one of the stages is bad
5) bad seat position sensor
6) bad pressure sensor on the right side

I would start with reading the codes.

my problem was a faulty air bag impact sensor on the passenger side....go to site mentioned previously for decoding....before you spend $$ on a new sensor, if that's the problem, look for corrosion at the connection..if so, disconnect battery, clean contacts, use dielectric grease and reconnect...still blinking, sensor will probably have to be replaced....worked for me...good luck

so where is the air bag sensor located?

thnaks for the help guys its really bugging me now

If it is the belt tension sensor, you will need to replace the seat belt assembly, I will guess it is the drivers side that is giving you the code?

I would check all wires and connectors before I changed out the part though.

Btw, I sold these parts already so if you needed one you'll have to search a junk yard.

I was thinking, you might want to try disconnecting the battery "both neg @ pos" overnight. Reason for overnight is the air bag light takes time to erase "worked for me". Anyway, after that see if it comes back, it might have been a glitch. Just say in before you spend $$$. ;)

thanks for the pichure so its the entireee seat belt assembly that i will need to replace

i hope like guys said let me car sit overnight disconnected and hope it stay off

i feel like if i do need tro replace the whole assembly cgonna be expensive if cannot find one from a memebr here from a parted out MM

lastly how would i know what side i need to replace the driver or passenger without the perfessionals tryna charge me 100 just to scan my car to see what side needs to replaced

is there a specific side of each a passenger and driver side or can they go on eithier side like the driver side also fit on the passenger side ?

Funny thing is that the code should have said the side that was faulty. Mine was the air bag impact sensor pass side, I think it was 43 or 42 4 blinks, then three, then stay on.

thats weird in my car that thing you have there at the bottom is not on the car all i have in that area is the acually seat belt thing in your pichure big black thing BUT NO silver thing on eitier the driver or passenger side on my MM why is that ?

B.C. Bake

That is weird, I kind of figured all MM had these sensors. Well my MM is a later 04 model, what year is yours? Those are impact sensors right and left side. I had a code I think 42 that said drivers side impact sensor bad so i changed it to the pass side and then came pass side impact sensor bad 43 was the code. Anyway got a new one and all is good. That was a 2 or 3 years ago. BTW those codes could be reversed I can't remember if they are in that order.

Bump

OK, saw your car on the post "03" build 02. I wounder if they added those later on, maybe someone will chime in on this one? Is the electrical connector there?

i double checked and yes my car does not have these on eithier side?

so i do not whats going on so my guess is that im going to need to replace one of the side to make light go off..thats what someone said above

but my code is 1-6 would be awesome if this code has happened too someone here and chime in and say "oh yea mine id that and i replaced this and it was fixed" would be nice ?

does anybody have any idea on what i should replace first with this code  i wanna fix this but dont want to buy some parts and its not gonna be it and hope to be able to find a used one soon...maybe someone will come acrossed nother parted out MM soon and i can hurry and buy that part quick is what im gonna hope for.

You will need to read the actual code in the computer, so we can tell you an actual way to fix it, past that, you are just hanging parts and hoping.

According to the shop manual 16 = Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) Circuit fault.

OK, Circuit fault, Now my question is should the 03 MM have the impact sensors as I showed in the Pict's above. It seems strange it does not have them, maybe causing a circuit fault. Just throwing stuff out there....

this member had to replace the bottom seat cushion and stuff w/the 16 air bag code.

According to the shop manual 16 = Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) Circuit fault. That sounds like the sensor that determines whether the person sitting in the seat is big enough to arm the airbag...i.e. not a small child.

Front passenger seat weight sensors reads if there is any weight and if that weight is under or over 50 lbs. Under 50 lbs the air bag will not deploy, over 50 lbs the aig bag will deploy, how much force is determined by the seat position to the dash.

If you have someone over 50 lbs sit in the seat without the seatbelt on and then start driving the car (around the block) the seatbelt ding should start coming on, that can at least tell you whether the seat weight sensors is reading or not.
