Just got a call from my wife. Her brother is back in the Emergency room at University Hospital in Baltimore. His health has been failing for years. In fact, I had to cut a Louisville trip short a couple years ago for a close call back then. He has had heart issues, lung and kidney problems, diabetes and is a double amputee. Doesn't look good this time around. Leaving now to pick up the wife and head up the road to Baltimore. Please keep Paul in your thoughts and prayers. He's a fighter and will need lots of help on this go-around. Thanks,
Charlie

You got that ^^^^ right!!! And despite all the problems, he remains the most upbeat and positive person that I know. Incredible.
They put him on a breathing tube last night. Were supposed to leave here at 10:00 AM. Looks like departure has been slipped by at least 30 minutes. After 37 years, you would think that our clocks were synchronized. Nope.

Paul is doing much better today. Yesterday, not so much. He is on a breathing tube and quite heavily sedated. He is resting comfortably and things look under control or at least headed in that direction. Looks like the internal bleeding (from a botched procedure IMHO) has stopped or at least slowed to the point that he no longer needs transfusions. We spent about 4 hours there at the hospital with 2 members of the family rotating through the CCU (Cardiac Care Unit). His brothers and sisters, wife and kids were all there. He slept for most of the time we were there. Probably best that way to gain his strength.
Bernie and I were the first ones there this morning and spoke at length with his young male R.N. ... real sharp guy and I felt much better after talking with him. Very knowledgeable. Glad they have folks like that in the health care business.
Bernie and I appreciate the thoughts and prayers. He is far from "out of the woods" on this one. I am convinced that the positive waves coming from MM.Net is helping alot. Thanks,
Charlie

Update on the situation ....
Paul had been improving steady for 3 days since Saturday. Things were looking up. Yesterday, however, he developed a fever and an internal infection. Antibiotics were not knocking down the infection, he was taken into surgery today about 1:30 PM.
He came through surgery OK, things were looking good, and the family went home. Shortly thereafter his blood pressure began to drop and his heart rate started to increase. The family is now back at the hospital after a call from the doctor.
Paul is still fighting this ..... any help will be greatly appeciated. He needs it. Bernie is holding up well but this latest development has everyone very concerned.

Sad news :( ...... Paul lost his battle this morning at 4:00 AM, 10/11/12. We got a call at about 10:30 PM last night and arrived at the hospital a little past midnight. His blood pressure and vitals had been dropping all night. The end came rather peacefully with his family by his side. Very difficult time for them. Very long night for the family.
Paul was 66. He was a combat medic in Vietnam during the '67-'68 timeframe. When he returned from overseas, he went right out and bought a new 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible 350 CID (5.7L) in metal flake blue. He worked for General Motors for many years at the Broening Highway plant in Baltimore. He is survived by his wife and 3 children (all there last night), 3 sisters and a brother.
He gave me the 3rd degree as the "older brother" when I came to pick up his baby sister for our very first date in 1971. I was sweating bullets .... especially on the "Want a beer??" trick question. ;)
Miss ya Paul. I'll take care of your little sister .... but you knew that already !!
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I want to thank the MM.Net and all of the members for their outpouring of support during this very difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
My brother-in-law Paul was laid to rest yesterday with full military honors at his funeral. The turnout of family, friends and people that have known him over the years was phenomenal. They all remembered a man who despite all of the physical challenges that were presented to him was able to maintain a sense of humor and who put a positive spin on every situation.
He will be missed.
